SHIII and Windows 7

Has anyone tried SHIII on Windows 7 yet?

Does it work?

Dowly 05-27-09 03:35 PM

Yup, it works. :salute:

Thx Dowly for your concise and highly detailed report. :hmmm: :haha:

Wha? You expected a fricking 500 word paper on what makes the game tick when I double-click the shortcut? :haha:

Well, yeah!

I thought Finns were supposed to be the most literate people on earth. Partly due to that insanely difficult language they learn first.

So demonstrate some superior literacy and produce some pearls of prose - just not in Finnish, please.

Runs beautifully on windows 7 64 bit as long as you dont have a disc with starforce.

The first time I heard that. :haha:

Otherwise if you do have a disc with starforce, you have to use a "crack" to get around it. Drove me nuts trying to get it working then I read the problem was starforce so made the connection of using the protection. I don't condone the pirating of games, but there is nothing wrong with this approach if you own a legitimate copy of SH3. I also read there's a way to update Starforce to get it to work, but well I'm too lazy to go about trying to go that route. I don't like 3rd party software forced on me by the publisher because they think I'm dishonest like that anyway, and see what trouble it's caused for us W7 64 users this time?.

It works on windows 7 but I've read that some people are having problems with the resolution (including me), since you will get 2 black bars on each side of the screen, this is probably due to WDDM 1.1 and the fact that there are still no Windows 7 official drivers for some video cards.

Isn't that just because Stock Sh3 refuses to use widescreen resolutions or anything bigger than 1024x(something)? I have vista and I am glad to have 2 black sidebands on my widescreen. I hate to see my persicope views being squashed.

well I used to have vista and whenever I ran SH3 it fitted full screen even on 1024x768, and did that for all my games but on Windows 7 I can't get games to go completely full screen I always have those black side bars, sure isn't annoying but just feels weird the first days :o

Do a search for "resolution" in topic titles and you'll find resolution patches for normal and widescreen.

Those mods don't work with Windows 7 RC1.

Alien1099 07-02-09 09:37 PM

One of the ones I tried did. Filename: dx9res10.zip

Really? This gives me hope. 3 Questions.

1.) Are you using Windows 7 Build 7100 (RC1).

2.) Are you using Grey Wolves mod?

3.) ATI or NVIDIA graphics?
