Depth to Ocean Floor?

I'm an SH3 noob, but I really enjoyed SH2 back in the day. I've noticed that there's no ocean floor indicator on the map or the depth gauge the way there was in SH2. Am I missing something? Is there a way to find how deep I can dive without hitting the floor? (Do I need to find an IRL map, and if so, does SH3 correspond to real life depths?)

Another curiosity: On the realisim setting page, the final checkbox on the right hand side has no text explaining what it does. Is this a bug or is this some sort of spoiler prevention? (I think I'm running 1.4)

Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

You can always ask your navigation officer to give you a reading from the fathomometer. I forget the shortcut command. Or ping it yourself from the control room. ;) That'll give you the depth easy.

Welcome aboard,

I do not know about the realism settings page, but about hitting the ocean floor; go to the Navigator and choose 'Depth Under Keel'. That will come in handy.

oops, Torplexed beat me to it. That's what happens when you forget to hug your submarine.

I think the poor Seaview got hugged or mugged in about every other episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. ;)

Welcome aboard jimmyv http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...es/welcome.gif

The depths in SH3 bare no resemblence to the real world...they tend to change in increments to an eventual maximum of 'over 1000 metres'.

I don't remember the original key (if there was one). I mapped it to the numberpad #5 like this:

[Cmd130]
Name=Get_depth_under_sub_keel
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F250005
Key0=0x65,c,"CTRL NumPad 5"
