snorkel with GWX 3
How come when I want to buy a snorkel I get the message that I do not have enough renown?
I do have the money but I get the message "Not Enough Renown." Thanks Grant |
Renown
Correct me if I am wrong but Renown means recognition and high acclaim, distinguished Kaleuns and boats received for meritorious service.
It is not a monied system to buy boats or equipment. Acclaim and merits earned by proficiency gave preference to supplies and assets to those boats who earned it. So why do folks keep referring to buying assets? Am I confused and there was a money transfer? I kinds of doubt it but am open to be corrected. :salute: |
In NYGM"a mod, upgrades are given when available plus three months, and no renown is needed for this.
This is the most reasonable solution to the problem, as it mimics what happens in real life. Personally, I first removed the problem by changing the configuration for renown in my Kaleun's file in the SH3 saved game file. (Change the delta renown). A more elegant, but more complicated, solution is to change all the renown requirements in the Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/data/cfg/main.cfg file to "O". Once this is done you can get anything available when you want it. Save the main.cfg file so if you have to reinstall, all you have to do is plug it in. When I have a chance, I will post the file in the download section. |

My preference is to remove the renown completely and add more time in port for the installation of the apparatus.

"I understand you handsome sailor boys have some renown you are looking to spend?" "Us?? Oh no, we are just going back to sea. Excuse us. Thanks anyway!" "Steve, You have any renown?" "Nope, spent it on Mars Bars." "Neal?" "Nope I had to buy the dog a new leg after they bombed Dresden." "Jim?" "I got some chewing gum!" :har: |
Good propganda flick:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt34jt1PIV0 :salute: Snorkels created several problems for their users. A U-boat with a snorkel raised was limited to six knots to avoid breaking the tube, and its sound detection gear was deafened by the roaring of the air being sucked down the tube. Most dramatically, snorkels were equipped with automatic valves to prevent seawater from being sucked into the diesels, but when these valves slammed shut the engines would draw air from the boat itself before shutting down, causing a partial vacuum which was extremely painful to the ears of the crew and sometimes even ruptured eardrums |
snorkel
Two solutions great.
But which of the config files do I change and can I safely edit the cfg file with notepad? "You are right, of course. This should be quite easy to do by increasing the renown in the basic.cfg file as the war goes on, and using CMDR to insert the files into the game. If I have time, I may do this." "My preference is to remove the renown completely and add more time in port for the installation of the apparatus." Thanks Grant |

Make a backup copy and save it somewhere you can find it if you want to restore the renown. edit the file in notepad or wordpad and save it then you are good to go. If you edit your Kaleun's delta renown, at the start of a new career you have to do it again for each new Kaleun. And welcome aboard. before you make any changes in your install, make a copy of the SilentHunterIII folder, and save it on a DVD, so if you screwup, just copy this file back into the Ubisoft directory. |
