New Dambusters movie has a name problem!

The fight to stay true to the story or change to avoid offending the audience!

It's what the dog was called, some people seem to get offended by the slightest thing

I wouldn't call the N-word a slight thing to get offened about. In the US the N-word is a racial slur now-a-days(even though it was the US that made that word popular.), and lots of people find the use of this word offencive language.

Just call the dog "Afro-American".

Great movie BTW.

Personally, I do not see why the name of the dog would add or detract from the movie. Just have a dog. Call him Skip or something. Using that word was and is derogatory then and now. Really, why have the dog anyway? Does he fly his own plane:06:

Well duh, they just did it to genearate buzz... looks like its workin.

I think it's best to use another name. It would be unfortunate if the hubbub over the dog's name distracted from what should be a great movie.

How about changing the dog's name to "Cracker" or "Whitey"? I think it would be funny on many levels:DL

The U.S. versions, as stated in the article, were altered so the name was trigger.

The dog is important as it was killed just before the raid and Gibson changed the code word for success to the dog's name as a tribute.

i say leave it the way it is... i hear "******" and "Cracker" every single day where i live - and never once have i heard it used in the derogatory sense.

strange culture we live in.

you can call your friends the "N word" all day long, every day, 365 days a year then ONE day its going to cause a stir with someone.

however, since the society we live in will utter the phrase daily, however - shun its use on screen - you might as well just name the dog "Niggs" or "Nick" or "Digger"

I'm with GR on this.

Why not change the name of Guy Gibson to Person Gibson FFS! if one of the objectives is to be historically accurate then why not with the names of all the characters?

I understand that some people may be offended but this doesn't stop movies about WWII including the swastika a symbol which is equally offensive to some people.

Personally other than the PR buzz I don't see the reason for any fuss to be made.

Whatever you UKers do... dont come to America and buy women's undergarments for your sweet heart from an African American Person.

your going to draw some attention asking for the "knickers" :har:

More than likely.

The dog was called ****** and so it should remain....I thought this movie was based on fact/a series of true historical events? :hmmm:

Oh for f**ks sake! There's dozens and dozens of movies that use the N word in a derogatory sense. Now when a fracking dog is named N- it should be changed? Rrrright..
