Range to target and mast height.

When assessing range by measuring the angle of the mast height you should bring down the line to the top of the highest mast.

Does this mast height include the flag pole on top of the mast?

In other words:-

Is the highest mast the height to the top of the flag if this is the highest point, or do you measure to the top of the highest thick mast, ignoring the narrow flagpole on top of it?

To be honest in a case like this I measure both (with and without flag) and then go for a medium between them. If I do this every single plot it doesn't really matter.

We could probably find it out by measuring both distances and then asking WO for his answer. Of course this would only work on surface, good weather would also help. I think the safest way to check it is to do it in German base.

Hi, I just make a comparison on how is the ship image in the book. So, from waterline to the highest point, doesn't matter if it's the funnel or the mast.. just look at what is the highest point in the ship on your book and compare with the "real" one.

NB. always take measure from waterline! even if the ship goes up and down in bad weather..
