Letum IR 2.0: "Return of the Geek Antlers"
Many moons ago I wanted to buy a TrackIR system, however I wasn't going
to pay £150 for one when I could build one my self. The result was Letum IR 1.0: http://www.b3tards.com/u/57a418c694bc7c6296b3/led.jpg It was a little basic. Only 2 degrees of freedom and it took a chunk out of my CPU power. Now I have upgraded to LetumIR 2.0 with 6DOF and networked image processing! http://www.b3tards.com/u/57a418c694bc7c6296b3/lir2.jpg The software this time is FREETRACK. the USB camera has had it's IR filter removed (easy) and a new visible light filter put in (made from the inside of an old 3.5 floppy). The camera takes ~5% of my CPU, so I have it running on a laptop. It sends the TIR data to my PC via a program called GlovePIE. Plans: Make a mount for the side of my head. Not so easy as when I turn my head tends to block out the LEDs. It works great on top anyway. Make it more sturdy. If I ever drop my headphones it will fall off at the moment. It works great! IL2 and other games runs in 6DOF mode like a dream.. If anyone wants help building their own, just ask. Here is the software picking it up: 3 almost perfect dots. It is accurate enough to use as a mouse for net browsing. http://www.b3tards.com/u/57a418c694b...b3/freelir.jpg Shame it can't give me a shave as well. Must attach razors to it some day. Note the extreme use of electrical tape. http://www.b3tards.com/u/57a418c694bc7c6296b3/letir.jpg |
I was experimenting with making my own trackir thingy aswell and was working on a similar setup, though my led placement was diferent. that being said, your stash overwhelms my ability to take you seriously :O:
