Those who bought Special forces edition of ETW will not like this.
I decided to delete this post since I think it's rather unethical to post it in public.
|
Stuff like this is illegal. I don't think this is allowed in the forum rules...
|
I wouldn't call it illegal , its just modding your own copy of the game that's on your own computer. I doubt they could arrest you for that unless they want to ban all modding of ETW. CA might not like it, but they should get over it. Making this illegal is like car companies making it illegal to change parts on your car.

Okay I don't mind the mod here to delete this thread.....besides there are too few units to get excited over....
|
No, I would suspect it is illegal because the special forces edition is meant to pe paid for, and you're getting it for free if you do this mod.

It's kinda stupid to have them nonetheless in the regular version. I just changed the unit names and voila they now appear. |
I'm completely against the idea of the special forces edition myself, but it is still illegal.
|
The store I bought my game at was waiting for a localized version (With the translated manuals and box) when I bought the game, so they were selling the Special Forces edition for the normal price of the game
I don't think it's illegal, it's just modding and the devs surely knew it would happen sooner or later |
I'll state this on this website and any other.
I buy and legally own the game I'll, do anything I want to it modding or otherwise short of copying it and selling it. If there's features that can be activated by a little editing. Tough titties to the maker for not makeing it possible before selling it to me. @ Castout    |
I don't believe it's illegal unless modifying the game in any way is explicitly forbidden in the EULA. I also have to say that if they did want to keep the content utterly exclusive they should have had it as a separate file that was only found on the SF version. But I also doubt that this was intended either.
However I am going to pass this up the chain here before anything is done to the thread. |
lol, I'm sure it's not illegal, it is merely modding. The Devs shouldn't have made it so damn easy in the first place, I mean I love Creative Assembly, but come on guys, that is pretty stupid. :haha: But hey, it saves us money!
|
I believe this falls to the grey zone. On the other hand, it's stupidy from the dev side to make then as easily accessable by simple modding your game and on the otherhand, the dev have banned all discussion on how to unlock the said units if you dont own the special forces edition.
|
I hate it when developers do this kind of thing.
In the age of DLC for nearly all titles available it seems wrong that the DLC content is already included on or in the original media (or buy a special ed) meaning you have to pay for an unlock key usually in the region of 100kb but @ £9.99. It hurts when I see that. Although not directly related to ETW everyone's doing it and it erks me. |
I have to agree regarding including special content inside the game, I also have a strong dislike towards it. Such stuff should be DLC after release. I don't object to having special limited release versions, but the goodies should be outside the main game, such as physical items and videos and the like, but the game itself should be identical to the regular release.
Anyhow as for this topic, it shall remain open for now. Its a huge gray area with out question, as the modification is inherintly legal otherwise all previous mods would also be illegal, yet it's also apparently the intent of the developers/publishers for those units not to be accessable to purchasers of the standard edition either. But if that was what they wanted, they should have made a proper effort to secure it. |
