Just goes to show how low a value the Chinese government put on the lives of their citizens. :nope:

I don't think mass starvation from 6 babies per family (That was what was happening before) is a good alternative.

This seems to simply be a poor combination of different factors. China has too many people to govern properly, the extra population means that China has even less incentive to try hard to govern it properly, and China's government was not particularily attached to its people anyways.

China, like a lot of places in the world, does have a legitimate overpopulation problem. The one-child policy is a good idea on the surface. The problem is that it doesn't mesh well with China's cultural norms.

No matter what they did, there was going to be some fallout. The fact that it's getting so bad with the male / female ratio was something that wasn't thought about at the time.
