Train simming. . . .It's a type of perversion right? :rotfl:

I mean what action can one possibly expect in a train sim? Getting derailed?

I'm sorry didn't mean to offend train simmer but I just can't see why one want to play a train sim. a train miniature that I can understand but playing a train game ...

I have Trainz Railroad simulator v1.3 i tried it once lasted about a week then i got bored as it didn't give me enough objectives to do if it had more i probably would of stuck with it. Then I tried out Sid Meirs latest Railroad and kinda liked that can build some cool railways all over the country side - think of civilization but with trains. I dont really mind train sims just more missions is needed.

Can I recommend Rail Simulator to those of you who are unimpressed :)

Hey, I used to think the same when a buddy from work told me about MSTS after it first came out. "Sounds real thrilling" I said with more then a tinge of sarcasm. Then my daughter reached 2 yrs old and every time she seen a train, she would make quite a fuss about them. We rode one of the old steamers at the Calgary Heritage park and that kid was grinning for a week. I thought I'd give the sim a chance and boy was I in for a nice surprise. I agree, not much in the way of real action but I find it a great stress reliever after a hectic day. You wouldn't believe how much content has been developed for this sim that came out in 2001. Both payware and freeware. Fantastic looking engines, rolling stock and routes. The sounds have also greatly improved. It's too bad the Microsoft gave up on MSTS2 with the current collapse in the economy but I got enough stuff for the original to keep me going till I retire and beyond. Now of course there is the newer Railsim but I'm not getting too excited about it till they make some more improvements. Great looking graphics but the physics side of it still needs some work.

stress reliever eh? Sounds good :)

Rail sim is the only game in town right now as Microsoft has canned the Aces crew.

Unless of course you want to fall back to the original MS Trainsim.

Yall be supprised that there is much more to driving a train than hitting a button and holding on for the ride.

Shunting can be almost like puzzle solving.

What about Trainz 2009?

Yes. trainz is a good series. Lots of downloadable content.:yep: Ive seen some excelent routes for that game.

SteamWake 05-12-09 12:42 PM

Trainz is a good game but I wouldent call it a simulator. I got bored with it real fast.

NeonSamurai 05-12-09 02:29 PM

I find I get equally bored with both actually, same goes for trucking sims (and flight sims too), ill play em for a few weeks then move on, then come back for another week or 2.

Anyhow I would consider it a sim myself if your not using the model train controls but rather the cockpit controls. It is a bit more like a model railroad sim when you can drive the trains, and best treated as such.

Not sure if your aware of this yet SteamWake but check out the review for the new rail sim called Run8 by 3DtrainStuff. I got it a few weeks ago and so far I'm very impressed. Definitely raised the bar in regards to realistic train operating.
