4-Corners Marker Off By 2.5 Miles

Quote:

SALT LAKE CITY -- Tourists who want to put a hand or foot in each of four states at the Four Corners area are apparently off the mark -- by about 2.5 miles.

According to readings by the National Geodetic Survey, the Four Corners marker showing the intersection of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah is about 2.5 miles west of where it should be.

The only place in the United States where four state boundaries come together was first surveyed by the U.S. government in 1868 during the initial survey of Colorado's southern boundary line.

The intended location was 109 degrees west longitude and 37 degrees north latitude. But, because of surveying errors, the popular tourist spot is a bit off.

The accurate location would be downhill to the east of U.S. 160 in Colorado and northeast of the San Juan River as it flows into New Mexico.
And we are supposed to believe this “story” about a “surveying error”. Surveying error indeed. Harrumph!

What exactly IS the government hiding at the true location of the Four Corners? And why this 141 year conspiracy to keep the true location a secret from the citizens? The government has much to answer for! :stare:

Not surprising the Department of Defense has not made any official statements on this. Hiding something Secretary Gates??

Snicker

I remember having my picture taken at the “four corners”. Another dream shattered, now that I know if was all fake. I feel so used. :D

LOL.
What a big oops.

As surveying is redone and updated with precise GPS technology, I suppose we will see quite a few of that type of things in the next few years...

It's a conspiracy. Such as the legend of Idaho, which doesn't actually exist: http://kuoi.com/idaho_does_not_exist.html

Geez I wonder if anyone who was near the old four corners location when they were arrested and convicted for a crime was prosecuted by the wrong state?

Does that make Larry Craig a great Liberal conspiracy? ;)
