Please help, I can't find a specific mod.
Hi,
Somewhere, sometime ago I read about a mod that exluded the contact reports on the map outside reasonable reachable distances. For example convoy or task-force reports wouldn't be recieved and shown on the map when they are further away than 200 nm from your current position. I could swear that I read something about a mod of this kind but can't seem to find it. I'm playing SH-IV without any major gameplay mods other than Real Environment and some other small tweak mods. I would realy appreciate your help. Thanks in advance for your time, Cheers |
Look in SH4/Data/Cfg/Basic (I think - it's one of those). Near the top you'll see the contact ranges. You can edit them yourself.
I'm probably wrong on the specifics (I can't look as I'm not at home) but someone should have the exact information for you soon. |
he might be talking about the reported contacts and not the ones you crew detects
|
So was I. The 'Contacts' section covers 'Opportunity Contacts' and 'Important Contacts' and the like.

Many of them are so far away I can't reach them in any time given. The mod I am looking for reduces the reports and their contacts on the map to those within a certain distance of your sub's position. If I can change that range myself in the data/cfg/Contacts.cfg what values would I have to change ? My contacts.cfg looks like this: =============================================== [ContactSettings] ; Contact settings Display Range To Opportunity Radio Contacts=1000 ;[>0] kilometers Display Range To Important Radio Contacts=3500 ;[>0] kilometers Decay Time For Important Radio Contacts=172800 ;[>0] seconds Decay Time For Opportunity Radio Contacts=64800 ;[>0] seconds Decay Time For Imprecise Sensor Contacts=600 ;[>0] seconds Decay Time For Precise Sensor Contacts=60 ;[>0] seconds Decay Time For HighPrio Radio Contacts=259200 Single Contact Min Size=1 ;[>0] minimum numbers of units in this type of group Small Contact Min Size=2 ;[>0] minimum numbers of units in this type of group Medium Contact Min Size=4 ;[>0] minimum numbers of units in this type of group Large Contact Min Size=9 ;[>0] minimum numbers of units in this type of group [ContactRange] ;under the (right) value a contact is considered as: Short=1000 ;[m] Medium=3000 ;[m] Long=20000 ;[m] [ContactSpeeds] ;less than each value means (in this order): stationary, slow, medium and fast speed ; over the last value means very fast speed Merchant=0.1,8,12,35 ;[kts] Warship=0.1,8,19,35 ;[kts] including uboats Air=0.1,8,19,35 ;[kts] Convoy=0.1,8,12,35 ;[kts] ============================================= As far as I can tell these two lines could change the reported range ? Display Range To Opportunity Radio Contacts=1000 ;[>0] kilometers Display Range To Important Radio Contacts=3500 ;[>0] kilometers But I don't know what value is the one I mean or what the "Opportunity vs Important" means and to what extend I should change it, is it measured in kilometers ? Thanks for your replies I realy appreciate the help !! Cheers |
Well thoes are the ones you want to change.
Oppurtunity targets are small one or two ships. Important are convoys and taskforces. The range reported is in Kilometers. 1 Kilometer = 0.53995680346 Nautical Miles Now it depends how far out do you want to be notified. |

well for those of us not in full inderstanding of a true realistic idea of whats in a reasonable range to be something you would be able to respond to? in other words whats your max range limit you could respond to something so that we have a better idea what to set something above that. |

In response to Shadowhawk's mod he was looking for that gave as an example 200 NM. Then set them both to say 400 Kilometers. That would seem to curtail the contact reports by quite a bit. I was thinking of doing it within the big mod I am making just to cut down on the traffic the player could attempt to intercept. |

well i had in mind something like 500 km for Opportunity and 1000 km for Important but i wasnt sure if that was too little, but if you feel 400 km is ok for both then i'll have to rethink it |
I have opportunity set for 1, because before 1944 you're not going to be getting radio reports about single ships, period. Important contacts I set at 100, because I doubt they'd tell me about anything I can't possibly reach.
When I play German I have opportunity set for 100, because Condor scout bombers tried to keep them abreast of developments in their area, and I leave Important at 3500, because I figure you'll get a report on any convoy leaving port, whether it's in your area or not. But, as always, that's just me. |

well im still unsure what should be realistic to be reported |
I wasn't aware that my request for help would evolve into this whole discusion :)
I am gonna make a little mod jsgme ready and try and set the distances to 1000nm - 1853km for Important and 500nm - 927km for Opportunity. I know for myself that I am not going to try and intecept any convoy or single freighter beyond those ranges, the chance of missing them is to great and I could have missed out on others while racing around chasing contacts in the far distance. I don't know wether these distances are realistic but I could imagine that contacts that far away from you would be transmitted to other subs that are closer to them or allready patroling that area. One question though...... Could I enable a mod like this during an ongoing patrol or should I wait untill I'm back in port ? I just started my 5th patrol on this career and things look rather good :) so I don't want to break off this patrol. Cheers and thank you very much for your great help....all of you :) |
