Medieval Total War II questions
You know how in Rome Total war you could look round one of your cities and see people running around can you do that in MTWII?
|
Not that i know...it was a cool feature though
|
Nope.
|
Nope but imo Medieval 2 is the best of total war game of the whole series. You are missing much if you don't have it already.
|
Why was MTW 2 the best? Honestly, I found it to be the worst of them all. I own all of them (with expansions) except Empire, and I should have it within the week if I can scrounge the funds.
If I had to rank em (without including empire), honestly MTW2 would be on the BOTTOM of the list for me personally. RTW would be at the top. The first MTW did alot more right than the second one did. Shogun with MI beats MTW2 in my view. Sure MTW was prettier, but it just... lacked something. I never could put my finger on what exactly, but it just never "grabbed" me like RTW did. |
I must say that Shogun Total War was the best for me as it introduced me to this game series.
also for some reason no other Total War game has surpassed its music quality the songs used in Shogun are just brilliant :yeah: the cutscenes where a very nice add, like the room where you received Traders and Enemy/friendly diplomats was nice. HunterICX |
Rome total war was the best because of Europa Barbarorum.
|
I liked Rome the best, even though all of them were very good
|
Enjoying MW 2, mainly due to the era it's set in :yep:
|
I've always found RTW to be more fun than MTW2. I think it's because of the wider variety in the factions. If you start as one of the main European factions in MTW2, you're basically fighting against armies that are the same as yours for most of the game. That's why I liked playing as the Poles, the Byzantines, and the Turks - they had a bit more variety in terms of their own units and who they fought.
In RTW, you may get two or three factions that are similar, but that's it. Most of the factions have an extra something that makes them special and unique to fight. For example, in my current RTW game (RTR mod), I'm fighting against barbarian Gauls in the north, Numidian horses in Africa, and Macedonian phalanxes in Greece. |

But I like Shogun too. It was incredible for its time. And HunterICX was right its in game music was just awesome and hasn't been matched by any of the subsequent total war games. I like shogun clips as well. They were not silly comical clips like those we find in Medieval 2. I found myself always watching the cut scenes in shogun. But Total war hasn't really been the same since Rome. Rome was revolutionary. I remember the hype when Rome was in development and when it came out. And I also agree with Max that Rome in terms of unit variety offers the most interesting gameplay.:yep: For those of you who haven't got ETW I think it's the buggiest total war game ever and it's a bit boring when it comes to battles compared with the previous total war games. But it's still the best game in its genre out there as in all Total War games. But I think somehow, could be because of the era it is set in that Medieval 2 is very much worth grabbing. It's a classic. It supports widescreen with improved graphics than Rome and unlimited number of men in battlefield plus your reinforcement fights with you in full numbers as soon as the battle starts. However one thing that is declining in the total war series is its music. Shogun was best in its music, then I would rank Rome as second then Medieval 2 as third and last Empire TW music is just horrible.:shifty: |
I think the best music in Total War ever was in the Teutonic Campaign in M2TWK, it fit the era and setting perfectly and was very good
I played Shogun years ago, so I don't really remember the music Actually, now that I think about it, I think I like Rome better as a game overall, but the Teutonic Campaign in M2TWK is the best campaign in the series IMO |
I have them all except Empire.
Rome is my favorite. Just can't keep away. I love the period! I got Extended Greek Modified and never looked back. Without this mod, Rome Vanilla had a very limited lifespan for me. The ridiculous Egyptian faction troops, the "oliphaunt" rebel army, the "phalanx" Germans and assorted other insults to anyone with the slightest understanding of Ancient Greece and Rome drove me crazy. I remember rantng when I first encountered the "oliphaunts" "WTF? What's next? Zombie giants?" :nope: Med 1 was crap, Med 2 was better but never really grabbed me. I got put off by being able to recruit highland rabble in North Africa and Constantinople. I was a bit peeved that I couldn't play my favorite period, as the developers skipped over the whole pike and musket era until I found "For King or Country". The moral of the story? Thank God for modders. |
Ah...the Total War series...:smug:. Rome Total War is nearly perfect with patches and mods, IMHO it really tops other TW games. The Extended Greek Mod for Rome Total War is very good. The mod one that really did leave me speechless was Europa Barbarorum, but it's too buggy at least for Vista. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Europa Barbarorum 2 (Roman Period) mod for MIITW which is in development :DL.

Rome : Total War is easily the best, IMO.
