Drinker finds new way to save money

Don't go out is his answer except for happy hour or if someone else is buying: http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/apr/16/drinking-home-041609/?business&zIndex=83494

MILWAUKEE — Bad economy or not, Marty Stogsdill still likes his scotch.
But the 26-year-old computer consultant is more apt to enjoy it at his condo with friends than in a bar these days.

Going out, he pays $10 to $18 for a glass of scotch. At home? He can buy a bottle for $35 to $50.

"You're not really giving anything up," he said. "You're just cutting out the markup, essentially."

A growing number of consumers are spurning drinking in restaurants and bars to save money.

They're also choosing less expensive beer, wine and liquor to take home. Some are even trading down from wine and
spirits to beer, which typically costs less

Ya, I dont go out that much anymore either. Too darn expensive. :shifty:

Night out = ~100€ + what I drink before that
Night with friends = ~20-30€

Besides, I rather make fool of myself before my friends than the whole bar. :yeah:

A simple way is not to get into round buying. I buy for myself and noone else and I don't accpet either.

In fact I get really annoyed with the round buying thing here. If I'm with a couple of good friends then sure but when it is with a crowd then it can get pricey.

The thing is it seems in the UK you should eb obligated to buy a round and if you don't you are a skinflint. If you don't accpet I don't see the problem.

Not shocked that he's in my hometown, Milwaukee.

Hell, our baseball team is the Brewers.
