Technique for re-aiming the boat for the aft tubes
With all my forward torpedos fired and just aft torpedos left
I've taken to going 180 degrees @ flank speed to expose the aft as fast as possible. Is there a better technique ? |
I think that is faster than using a backing bell. Just turn your boat in the direction that your target is going.

I just time my arrival at the track so I cross it before the target gets in firing position. Then I have my stern pointed at him when he arrives and I can throttle back to a stealthy speed to send my regards in his direction.

Hey Thanks.
:D Thanks for the help.

I guess it really depends on how close you are to your target. If you're point-blank (2000 yards or closer, say), it's probably safer to just hightail it out of there while ducking beneath the layer after your first salvo, since your torpedo will probably have already hit by the time you're 90 degrees through your turn. Farther out (say, 4000 yards or so), you'll probably have enough time to set your second salvo to Fast and have it hit by the time your first salvo reaches their targets, and the direction of turn doesn't matter a whole lot (plus, it's unlikely that escort sonar will pick you up that far out if you're at least early war depending on what mods you have installed).
In much of my experience though (at least with RFB1.4), you won't always have enough time to put a second salvo into your targets unless you're at some intermediate range (or if your target happens to be anchored). At far ranges your second salvo, if set to Fast, might not have the fuel to make it to your targets, and at closer ranges your first salvo might take out their targets before you even have a good solution for your stern tubes. |
If you are shooting at more than 2,000 yds. just turn parallel to the targets and both bow and stern tubs will bear on the targets. I fire the stern at the longest range than the bow at the closer target.
If I am just going to shoot stern only than I do like RR says and just cross the target course. Magic |
