If searched for a short while now... no success.

when the radio operator in GWX receives a message there is a morse code sound that activates.

does anyone know what the morse code spells out.

I think it is "bernard", but it goes pretty fast and im not completely fluent in morse code even though i do know some.

LOL! Well, I don't know what it spells out... but I can assure you that it isn't 'BERNARD.'

IIRC, that sound file has been with GW for so long, it pre-dates Bernard.

hard to say, i have gotten pretty good at aviation morse code on navaids but this rolls along so fast the letters seem to run together. i have to listen to it several times to get one letter, then when i think i have got it I find a dash or dot in the wrong place.

makes the job of decoding it very difficult unless your an expert with the code.

i ran my hypothesis through an online morse generator... it sounds very similar, but not the same telling me there are some letters i got wrong.

heh... Enigma, probably need to use that.

The morse code you hear when a message is received is a number group interspersed with spaces. The only letter in this group from memory is the last character which is a G.

Next time I hear it I can write it down and post it here.

(1) It is definately NOT Bernard lol!

(2) It is nothing that makes sense.

I suppose it is a simulation of an Enigma message.

By the way the morse code is not that fast for anyone used to using this mode of communications as I was (Merchant Marine Radio) for many years in the past.

Unfortunately now CW or Morse is seldom used, having been superseded by things like teleprinter and satellite communications.

However at the end of the day a morse code signal will get through where nothing else will under poor atmospheric conditions..
