Mods for SH4: Gold vs non-Gold, how do they stack up?

1. Quick poll, are most mods designed to work with v1.5 and 1.4?

2. Are there some mods that will not work with 1.5? So they are SH4 non-Gold/UBM only? How many would you estimate? 10%? 50%?

3. Are there mods that will not work with SH4 1.4? They are mods that only work with SH4 1.5

4. Do headbutts really work, or only in the movies?

If you are an SH4 modmaker, weigh in here, you know what your mods will do. Thanks! :salute:

Neal

The answer to number 4 (from personal experience) is that they do work, but not on the intended party:D

As for how to arrange mods, could I make a suggestion? Of course I can:haha:, let me rephrase. Here's a suggestion : Have one download section (with a couple extra categories) and allow each mod uploader to specify which versions it works with (1.4, 1.5, both), possibly by having a checkbox for each version. Then allow searching (or viewing) the mods by which version it works with. I don't know if the download setup your working with would allow that, but I believe that would be the least confusing method of organization. If that isn't a possibility, then, perhaps, allowing a mod uploader to duplicate the mod in two categories.

Probably need to add an application category, too, to cover the applications that massage the game files (things like S3D, MultiSH4, etc.).

Just some thoughts:salute:

nice idea

except the headbutting part :D

the thread title maybe is better called v1.4 vs v1.5 because gold has nothing to do with v1.5 its just the version with 1.5 on a hard disk. i would guess 70% of v1.5 users dont have the gold edition.

Wow DT, I posted the same thing in another thread a few minutes after you posted your message here, I wasn't copying you hoest :-).

There are a few mods that won't work with 1.4 and 1.5, due to the way the game engine does certain things and a few changes that were made for the German radio rooms. It's not very common, but it does happen.

If that's the case (and boy, was I hoping to hear that), then I would strongly lean towards one unified SH section. Then we add in the description of the few mods that only work with 1.4 or 1.5:

This mod ONLY works with v1.4

or

This mod ONLY works with 1.5

With a single Silent Hunter 4 section, SH4 players can peruse the mods and files, if they see something they like, they can immediately tell from the description if if it is 1.4 only, or 1.5 only.

instead of catagories, if neal put a header at the top of each mod description box we could check the boxes that nisgeis posted in the other thread:

Compatibility

1.4 Tick
1.5 Tick
US Campaign Tick
Gemran Campaign Tick
TMO No Tick
GWX No Tick
RFB No Tick
GFO Tick

then we check off its compatability when we fill in our descriptions so it wouldnt need to be software controlled and the search could use it as a header entry to locate catagories.

i dont know software works so maybe it cant work that way but it sounded good when i thought of it lol

See, it's true, he's headbutted himself into confusion and thinks that they worked:D

I don't have enough experience with SH4 or its mods to make an honest evaluation, but

If you use your forehead (or backhead) to butt the other guy's nose, then yes, they work quite well.

Which reminds of the joke about the two Scots...

I definitely think there should be only one SH4 section. Two different sections for the same game is too much, and too confusing.

All my mods will work. :yep: :D
