International Maritim Museum - Hamburg
Some time ago I visited the new International Maritime Museum in Hamburg (Germany). http://www.internationales-maritimes-museum.de/
The exhibition opened last year and shows the largest private collection of marine collectables on 10 floors. Here are some pictures: Entrance with midget submarine (currently in restoration) http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9797/eingangx.th.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/822...stuboot.th.jpg One floor only shows ship models (the world largest private collection of ship models) http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6935/modelsw.th.jpg http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2599/models2v.th.jpg Another floor is only submarine warfare http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/6854/minioboote.th.jpg http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/3662/subhisto.th.jpg http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/984...bunker2.th.jpg KM grid, Enigma and radio receiver of a submarine who travels from Wilhelmshaven to Philadelphia http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7307/kmgrid.th.jpg German Torpedo Engine and Depthcharges http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2168/torpmotor.th.jpg http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/699...rbomben.th.jpg Dreadnought and Pre-Dreadnought models http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/380...erkrieg.th.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/440...ught1s1.th.jpg Santa Maria model in gold http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9518/santamaria.th.jpg WWI model in silver http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/936...rschiff.th.jpg Amber models http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3127/bernstein1.th.jpg Ivory models http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5849/elfenbein.th.jpg Bone model http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8379/knochen1.th.jpg Shell from Bismarck http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/927/bismarck.th.jpg Skull alleged to have belonged to Klaus Störtebeker (German Pirate), found in 1878 http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/545...ebecker.th.jpg When I have time, I will once again go there and take my time to browse through the numerous documents and plans of WWI ships. This requires a prior application, since the archives are not publicly available. ;) |
I was there last week, the exhibition is absolutely facinating!
During the the last years, a lot of new items went into the museum and now it is normal to enter the archives without invitation and read the huge documents or copy parts of them for free. |
