Dear FileFront User:

We regret to inform you that due to the current economic conditions we are forced to indefinitely suspend the FileFront site operations on March 30, 2009. If you have uploaded files, images or posted blogs, or if you would like to download some of your favorite files, please take this opportunity to download them before March 30th when the site will be suspended.

We would like to give a warm thank you to all of you who have been part of the FileFront communities we have built together. Your support has had a meaningful impact for all of us here at FileFront. If you look at the top of the SS forums you will see a download link. I believe the files added here do not go to FF. If you have something to load to SS or submarine related files contact Neal. Neal and moderators have been loading this download link for the past week.

Man, that bites, filefront was such a good site. Guess this might delay some mods for a bit, better download the supermods just to make sure i have a good backup.

Yep, I got a tip around Christmas that FF was just not making enough money to support the massive bandwidth usage. At the time, they were unsure if they would change to a subscription model or cease ops.

As Warhawk said, we are gearing up here for a new downloads section that will mimic what FileFront offered. This is something Sailor Steve suggested at the Houston meet in October. We have migrated to a new XEON server for this purpose. We depend on voluntary donations to cover the costs of our servers, as long as we receive that support, we should be ok. The GWX Team graciously underwrote much of the 2008 budget by allowing Subsim to host their awesome GWX mod during Dec '07 as a donation mod for several weeks, and players did pitch in and help.

Download sites come and go, SUBSIM has been here for 12+ years and we will be here forever. (I even have a packet of passwords and account settings to be passed on to other SUBSIM memebrs in the event of my death).



The SUBSIM Downloads File Bank

• It will be free, the cost of the additional server(s) will be covered by donations
• If we can, we may have one or two donation-only mods to help offset costs
• Any mod guru can upload and manage his mods.
• Mod makers will need to PM the Mod Manager and Admin (details coming) to get access to upload.
• Sailor Steve is the Mod Manage
• Laufen zum Ziel is legacy files support manager
• Neal Stevens will be the contact point for new mod gurus to get access to upload
• We plan to open the File Bank soon.

Get your files from FileFront, and stand by.

NOOOOO not filefront... The place where all the mods are at... :o For the games I play. (Lot of the Il2 mods are there, sh3/4 mods, ect.)

cant we use rapidshare or megaupload... or we cant i want to know... till now i still dont had a problem downloading from them.. provided the links will be maintained.. i read somewhere that you can get a premium account for rapidshare for free and its not a scam..

Well, I didn't have much stuff in there but there's a lot of cool
MODs up that oughta be saved and re-upped somewhere else,
twise atleast.

Just today I was lookin for info about who made the firsts bearing overlays 360
and found out that things started to get hard to find from back 2005.

We got archives of subsim, google, wayback stuff etc but them original zip
files that might have info about modders are missing in some cases.

It seems not everything is forever in teh internets.
Only the bad stuff you never wanted to see in the first place stays
for eons on end.

As far as i know, rapidshare is not for free use for uploaders. You can download for free but you have to wait 60 sec or less. When you pay you don`t have to wait and you can upload. Thise is how it works as far as i remember ;)

Hey guys - Don't forget about BtS-Mods.com! ;) SWCowboy has put ALOT of work into a great filehosting site for SH3 and SH4 MODs - I think currently he's hosting something like 400+ MODs... just a suggestion... It DOES suck that FileFront is gone though... soooo easy to use :damn:

It would explain why I lost half of my links... I bet one of there clients shut them out...

I've already backup what was left 2 days ago.
