Design glitch I noticed on Phtoto Recon to Rabaul
 

This is my first post on subsim.com, here it goes:

After I returned from Rabaul after getting the photos of the two carriers in anchorage I was heading south for the Solomon Sea on surface at night.

During the morning I had several airplanes engaging coming in from Rabaul heading east. They weren't shot down but they all crashed into the mountains on the island to the east of Rabaul. Some of aircraft who passed only within radar range also met up with the same fate.

Were the pilots unable to climb over the mountains?

Probably just one of those odd game things. Who knows, you may be the first one to see or notice this. BTW, welcome to the forums ! :woot:

I seem to recall this was a common occurrence in the stock game.

I'm running the stock game version 1.4...

What mods/add-ons would you recommend for me to install?

Trigger Maru Overhualed this is the one I am using. Its really fun and I highly enjoy it.

Lots of great mods out there-might be an idea to try out a few. Run Silent Run Deep, Trigger Maru Overhaul and Real Fleet Boats can all run together. If you're into a really extensive ship and plane library to playwith, then Fall of the Rising Sun is great. With multiple mod installs, be sure to read the install and read me instructions carefully!

You'll be needing the wonderful JSGME as well, to get them all in!

The SHIV U Boat add on is pretty much the standard most modders are working with, so it's probably a good idea to get your hands on that.

Lastly, why not get involved? Help out with some research, do some tweaking yourself and have fun! I love the sharks, the strafing Hellcats with rockets, the extra sub compartments, the superb weather-all the things that various madders have added to the game that make it so much more than the software I originally bought.

Oh yeah, definately get the üboat addon, it patches the game upto 1.5 and
then head to MODs section, download usermade critical patches or try those big mods like RFB, TMO RSRD/MO etc. cuz they're pretty much fixed also.

Some MODs are not compatible with 1.4 so read the intsructions carefully.

The New Enviroment MOD was unleashed yesterday, things look perty good in game alltho there's some talk about fog...

I'm currently running 1.5 without mods and I've seen airplanes crashing into mountains a couple times.

it does happen too in modded sh4.. ive seen it happen near midway in 1942, in rabaul, pearl, manila.. i think they got shot from somewhere by some TF lurking around.. ive seen one in pearl but before it crashed it was engulfed in smoke, i think it was a bomber coming home from a perilous bombing mission(maybe it would be great for immersion)...

Its a pretty common 'glitch' modded or not.

Hell Ive seen ships slam into the shore and blow themselves up as well.
