Longitude & Latitude

When recieving a message about a ship in distress the coordinates are given in Longitude/Latitude. How do you find these coordinates?

I am using GWX 3, SH3 commander, JSGME.

Thanks

You don't. Those messages are for immersion only. In any case, you couldn't find longitude and latitude in-game anyways, because the map considers the world to be a cylinder.

Cylinder or not, it does work if you take 120km for each degree in lattitude (vertical) or longitude(horizontal). Note the lat./long. of your starting port on that notepad thingy as your savegame/patrol gets loaded. Then locate that on the map (converted to kilometers, using vertical and horizontal lines) with reference to the Greenwhich meridian and the equator. You'll be spot on. Promise. Then locate the same on an Atlas or Google Earth (but now only using those lat./long. coordinates in degrees).

The only thing that isn't correct, because of the cilinder issue, is the distance between the said position to any other point in real-life versus on the map. Well, and straight lines pointing diagonally on the Sh3 map are spiral-arcs on the real world (aka loxodrome).

But you are right, this whole thing is moot as you won't find anything there if it's from a radio message.
