Suicide Crash Dive!
Hi ladies and gentlemen.
Could you help me out with an issue I'm having? I've taken a VIIC to sea in 1940 and upon arriving in deep water conducted some drills to ensure it was essentially the same as the VIIB I used previously. I ordered a crash dive to see where the boat would end up. Immediately, the engines go to Forward Emergency, and we're submerged in 25 sec or so. But, whereas the VIIB would level out at 70m deep, the VIIC just keeps on going. I didn't have the guts to let her keep going down, knowing that the text-book maximum depth is 150m. As we past 125m, I ordered to maintain depth and finally stopped going down at 145m. Does the Chief simply forget we're diving? Is it a bug or what? Also, I ordered a couple of knuckle turns while being hunted by a convoy escort, while simultaneously going deeper. Again, the engines went to full-pelt (pinging stopped, presumably because the destroyers could hear me) and thirty seconds, a minute pass... there's no turn. I had to order the rest of the manuevouer manually. Is it a bug, or do I need a new Chief? Siber. |
In case you are using SH3 Commander: You may want to check if sabotage and malfunctions are enabled. In this case I think the crash dive depth may be set to a deeper value to simulate problems with dive planes etc.
Cheers! Mr. Fleck |
The same thing happened to me recently.I wasn't really paying attention so I got the "we are diving too deep" message before I realized anything was wrong.Even then I just sat gawping with dissbelief as we plunged past 180m.Then a moment of blind panic - AUSBLASEN!!! - EMERGENCY REVERSE.
I am using gwx3 and commander with malfunctions turned on although I didn't recieve any reports of a malfuntion. |

Ha! Took a VIIC down to 254m yesterday and lived to tell the tale. Although I was sweating bullets, granted... Well, they seemingly gave me an exceptionally sturdy boat this time :ping:
But still, she _can_ take a lots of punishment that girl, so just forget the test depth and go silent and deep whenever you have to! I usually start to pay attention when I pass the 220m mark myself... |
hehe you guys are chicken:D
i take my type viib down to depths of around 200m if im being depth charged havent been crushed yet... must be my some horseshoes aboard:arrgh!: |
Yah :arrgh!:
Well there I was, coolly cruising around on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard looking for targets, when out of the mist comes a lone DD forcing me to dive sharpish! Now I don't know what his problem was, an ace complex or what, but he just couldn't let me go no matter what :stare: I finally slipped away after 3 hours of frantic manouvering combined with making like a very small and quiet hole in the water... Fortunately, what one can do with a VIIC is to go deep... and then a bit deeper just to make sure. Yah, was what saved my butt in the end  |
If you use SH3 Commander you can randomly vary the crush depth (ie. the max dive depth) with each patrol. So sometimes, you might crush at 150m, at other times deeper - one player on these forums has dived to 400m and lived to tell the tale.

Tried it last night in my VIIC, heading out on a new patrol, fresh, with no damage. Got to 295m before things started to pop. Made it back up ok though.
Man, I love the VIIC. :yep: |
With malfunctions ticked on SHC when I hit crash dive the telegraph goes to stop every time.
Is this normal in a VIIb in 1939 ? |

When leaving port on a patrol I always test my top speed, and my periscopes. If they are not working properly, I abort the patrol. |

I'm playing with GWX3.0 and in 17.December.1939 thereis no VIIb avaliable yet. Hmmm. at 1.08.1939 there was one for upgrade in 2 flotilla but lack of renown then, later VIIB dissapears from "upgrade list".WTF?? in wilhelshafen aslo no VIIB but IX is alredy for 9000. :damn: stuck on IIA:damn: |
:o
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c9...pestDive-1.jpg My deepest dive... and I lived to tell the tale... the Type IX, there is no substitute! |
:o
I didn't know that IX can withstand such a depth. Once I went below 400m, but that was with Type VIIC/42, and that boat can go very deep. With Type IX I never dared going below 270m. |
