Labor Bill Faces Threat in Senate

This better get shot down.

This is not Free Choice, it is forced choice. A union guy could walk into any one of your jobs and sit down with you and force you to unionize. Imagine that?

I see nothing in your article that says this.

Read it - the actual bill that is. Its all over the radio today.

This is how it works (quit being so sketicle without due cause - try finding supporting alternate evidence instead of opinon!):
Quote:

...Currently, if 30 percent of a company’s workers sign a card supporting a union, the National Labor Relations Board sets up a company-wide vote on whether to unionize.

The vote is held within 90 days, giving employers who don’t want a union time to meet with employees and argue against making such a move.

Under the proposed legislation, if half of a company’s workers sign those cards, the union is automatically formed without a full company-wide vote. Some businesses are concerned workers will be pressured to sign the cards....

Anyway, the size of a company means that if you have 2 people working there and 1 signs, you just friggen unionized without choice!!!!

That's BS!

No its not BS its just the normal right wing side of the Union Debate from you.

Let me guess you think it was a bad idea for an increase in minimum wage right?

SteamWake 03-13-09 09:25 AM

Is this the 'card check' thing where Unions want to strip the "secret ballot"?

If so its just plain wrong. Unions using strong arm tactics again.

Lighten up Zachstar. Obama is a union supporter if I'm not mistaken. I do not support unions myself. I have my reasons. But hey, if the company wants to go union, who is to stop them?

That passed in Maryland. Bad idea in my view. But, I do not go with union ideals or union companies.

When it comes to unionizing, no you don't if this thing passed. Your freedom is being swindled away.

Bull.

1. You ALWAYS have the freedom to seek another job if working in a union shop is so repulsive to you. Even in the unlikely event there was one, no pre-existing contract or non compete agreement would remain valid. Everything would have to be renegotiated.

2. A majority of the workers have to agree to unionize before it happens. You know, the same way elections are run?

3. You would have the opportunity to convince your fellow workers that the negatives of unionizing outweigh the benefits.

SUBMAN1 03-13-09 11:26 AM

Again - BS! You obvioulsy haven't worked for a career since you would not be so happy if it were pulled out from under you. Its like the guys in the machine shop all vote in, yet you work on systems in another part of the company and you have to too because the shop guys did?

Sorry man. You are supposed to live in a free country. What you speak of is not freedom and I am surprised to hear it from you.

Yes you could walk down the street, but the way this is set up, it will Unionize the whole damn country! You only need look at the United Autoworkers to know how F'd up that would be.

It will not unionize the whole country. There are plenty of companies that take care of their employees and the employees are happy. They do not have to pay the barn boss monthly to 'look out' for them. I work as a contractor in an agency that is a contractor to larger corporation that only hires on contractors. I'm just one of many companies like this.

Well sorry to burst your bubble Subman, but I have been in my career field for 33 years now so obviously you have absolutely no clue what is obvious or not.

You're making wild assumptions with no evidence to back it up. A majority has to sign on to unionize and imo that's the way it should be. Telling the majority of your fellow workers that they can't organize just because you personally don't like the idea is the very opposite of freedom.

NeonSamurai 03-13-09 07:11 PM

Hmm actually its the opposite of democracy, not freedom per say. Freedom and democracy are two different things.
