I wouldn't say its strange, I'd say it shows evidence that nature had them pretty well just right when the supercontinent/s split up.

That Emu cannot produce a valid birth certificate so it should be ineligble because it doesn't look like a citizen . Just to Hijack the thread;
Flightless birds happen because of,"regression towards the mean", the use it or lose it of natural selection. It would be odd if it didn't happen.

On Topic: I sympathise with the emu friday night sees some of my sexiest dancing, but no interest from the opposit sex:)

You shouldn't think of flightlessness as a regression. It is an
improvement/adaptation to save energy and allow larger body
mass etc., not a regression from under use.
