Horse people?

Is there anyone else here who rides?

I was riding a horse at four weeks old :haha:

Well, ok, I was just plonked on the back of one, but I've been around horses up until about four years ago, my Mum adores them and has ridden all her life, she's worked in Polo at Cowdry Park as the stable hand, met Prince Phillip (shortly after criticising the state of his horses tack :haha: ), she's owned an ex-racehorse, worked at two ranches, been a equine handler during the filming of the Adventures of Don Quixote:

The Adventures of Don Quixote (1973), a British made-for-television version first telecast on the anthology series Play of the Month, but shown as a television special in the U.S, presumably to capitalize on the publicity engendered by the then-recent release of the film version of Man of La Mancha. It stars Rex Harrison and Frank Finlay. Directed by Alvin Rakoff, with a script by Hugh Whitemore.
(She met both Rex Harrison and Frank Finlay, Harrison was a bit of a snob apparently but Finlay was a real nice guy, helping her when the horse she was working with got spooked and booted her into a set of lights), and she's also ridden on the London to Brighton mail coach.
My other half also rides but not as often as she used to :)

I love horses! We're surrounded by horse farms here in central Jersey.

Don't know how to ride though. Mom forbade it when I was a kid(her own bad experience) and none of my friends were ever into it. Now I keep putting it on my New Year's resolution list, but just never seem to find the time. Maybe when my daughter is a little older we'll take lessons together.:DL

I only do pleasure riding anymore but I used to ride roughstock.

I've recently started riding in Lancashire and I'm up to indoor cantering at the moment. I look forward to chav hunts!

Up until uni I rode horses competively. I did show jumping and dressage.

I had a horse on loan and had great fun. I wish I could take it up again but too expensive at the moment. The thing is I don't want lessons as I can ride, just some hacking in the countryside would be good.

I used to date a girl that did jumping at shows and taught lessons, she turned out to be insane though.

Our family is complimented by two dogs, two horses, and a fish :yep:

Yes to get on a live animal kick it to high gear and launch it at a 5 foot high fence does take a screw loose somewhere. Bloody good fun though.

Am I the only one who rides Western?:-?

Haven't ridden in a long while. Went on a couple of trail rides growing up though they were fun.

Almost thought this topic would be about Centuars when I clicked on it.

What do you do with the other hand when you ride western?
I'll take it that the Household cavalry ride one handed as they need one hand free for their weapons!
