More police overreaction?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7917295.stm
Don't know the ins and outs of this, but at face value it sure looks like an assault on a minor in police custody to me. Kicking off the shoes into the corridor appears to provoke a brutal response. Both of those guys must weigh at least twice as much as that girl. It bears a striking resemblance to the cctv footage I see of yobbos fighting in the streets on a friday or saturday night. No restraint at all. I'm sure if there was more to the incident, should it have taken place in the station, there will be plenty of video evidence of the girl causing trouble for the deputy, corroborating his story that he acted to prevent her from attacking him... :hmmm: I'll bet the deputy doesn't want the film aired to the public... prejudice the right to a fair trial? Pfft How about the right to be a minor and not to be assaulted whilst in police custody, no matter if there's a 'tantrum' brewing, that guy had clearly lost control of the situation given his response. He could have just closed the door, could he not? Thereby avoiding the need for physical contact? |
Got to agree with you on this......looks like a serious overreaction here :hmmm:
|
He was justified in using force, but went crazy with the :damn:
|
Actually I don't see anything in this video that would justify that reaction. By the way, it doesn't matter what happened before a policeman is supposed to be a professional and mustn't tick off because of some shoes being kicked off and not even in the most forcefull way.:timeout:
Even IF the initial reaction was justifies, dragging someone in handcuffs out of a cell at her hair should really get this guy fired. |
Lesson learned here gents. DON'T kick your shoes at a police officer and you will be treated with the common courtesy deserved by all. Which acoording to this video she was obviously enjoying up until the time of her assault on that officer.
Drop kick that direspectful little wannabe thug girl and her parents in jail. |
Yea except that the cop who attacks the girl in that video is the one who is being charged with violence, not the girl. The cop will probably lose his job, and rightly so. Kinda makes me think what goes on in the jails, arrest situations etc. when there aren't any cameras present.

As with many of these cases, I refuse to make any judgements until I have the "full" story.
Police overreaction does happen Defense lawyer sensationalizing nothing does happen The video looks bad but without any other information, all I can say is that the video looks bad. Both the Police and the suspect are considered innocent until an examination of all the data. I would agree with the lawyer who said that publishing this video will hurt the officer getting a fair trial. This may be one of those cases where the public has a right to know after the investigation, not before. |
Why didn't he just toss her shoes back in with her and close the door????
At face value it looks pretty out of control to me. |
So she kicked off a shoe , the shoe hit the officer , thats assault.
The dumb **** should have just added that to the charge sheet of the thieving Chav instead of losing his head , as he lost his head sack the idiot because you cannot have idiots with a badge . |
So, the car thief got her little ass whipped. Funny how the entire situation could have been avoided had she not set out to hurt others via taking their property ... let's just say I don't feel bad for the little, well, you know what...
That being said, what the officer did is inexcusable. But people must remember that such behavior is a rare exception - not the rule. I'm sure there are plenty of members of law enforcement tempted to kick the crap out of perps on a daily basis. God knows many deserve it. However, the VAST, VAST majority demonstrate what I believe to be remarkable restraint. The title of this thread seems to suggest that this is commonplace. The fact is, stories like this should be a reminder of how rare these occurences are. |
They are rare but are growing.

The officers were thick to think that it would be ok, as they were being filmed.
A guy who was a former police officer and is becomeing a train driver with me said they had the same set up here in NSW, but there was no sound so they would stand out of view and taunt the prisoner. They would go nuts, but the reason why was never recorded!:D |
If a parent had reacted that way to a petulent teenager kicking off a shoe, the parent would have been arrested and charged with assault on a minor. The officer should face the same punishment.
|
WTH...that is screwed up. A Ked's tennis shoe headed your way that might have hit your knee cap does not warrant a kick to the gut, a head slammed into the wall and two quick closed fisted punches to the back of the head. This is total BS. This cop knew he had the power and upper hand to act like an idiot. Shameful, this man does not need to have a weapon on his hip. I know one can only take so much but I would hope that this person in such a position would know when to just close the door and lock it. Walk away and take a breather.
