Question on Permissions to modify TableMin.tga

I never noticed these two files in stock SH3. Tablemin.tga and Tablestd.tga. I found them after installing GWX3 Since I rarely use these tables, I am using the one to make a chart of the silohettes of common patrol craft and escorts as a quick reference guide.

If anyone was interested I would release what I have when I am finished, only I wanted to find out if these were stock tables, if not then I need to find out who to get permission from and credit.

Also some of the silohettes are of ships not in the stock game. Would it be alright to refernce GWX3 for the source of the new ships? Or are various ships attributed to specific authors?

Hi,

IIRC those tables are the work of JCwolf, who you can contact here. However, since you are planning to do a completely new "replacement" graphic that will overwrite the existing one, you don't need to ask permission at all because you are not using the original file or part of it, nor including it in your mod.

IMHO that would fall into rule #6 of the recommended modding etiquette:

Quote:

#6: Overlays or tweek packs for existing mods or supermods do not require previous permission unless: a) You are not just including stuff created entirely by you, but also using parts of the original one (E.g. you change only the crosshair of the periscope but keep the original artwork of the rest of the screen, created by someone else), or b) You are including also the whole base-mod in yours.
Of course, that said, contacting the author is always a nice and friendly way to do things :salute:

Hi Hitman, thanks for the info. I'll contact him before I release anything.
