After the red triangle... A red ship!

Yeah, thats right!
I spotted a trawler on map just north of Germany, in 1939.
I sailed on to sink it for fun. And thats when it happened!

I wanted to be a bit close to it so no shell would miss, so i plotted the course on the navigator map. Suddenly the WO reports a collision.
I changed the view to the bridge and i saw a big, red, unreported ship without flags :/\\!!
(The trawler had luxembourgish i think, the one with the red, white and blue horizontal stripes.) just next to the trawler.
I fired at it. No fires, no nothing before the massive explosion that cut it to two.

Anyone got any idea?

Maybe a light ship? Can they be destroyed? If so, then it definitely is.

Defo a lightship
Classed as enviromental your watch crew WONT spot it
Which is why the other ship is docked close by
To avoid collision
Ummm didnt work in this case

Isn't the ship nearby a GWX feature?

I believe they put it in there to avoid collisions while using time compression.

Well, in this case they did it just fine! :haha:

PS Indeed, it was a lightship. Forgot to mention the two lights on top! :D

I think that the flag you are referring to is actually the Dutch flag and while the same as the flag of Luxembourg; it would be a surprise if it were the latter. While the flags are in fact the same color (Horizontally, Red on top, White in the middle and blue on bottom), Luxembourg is in fact a land locked country and I would be surprised if they had anything more than an odd pleasure craft, let alone a navy or the need for lightships!!
Cheers!!

To be honest, i was bugged too about it but i didnt crossed my mind that it could be dutch! Cheers! :D

Hi I have a question related the these light ships. Is the ship anchored next to the light ship sinkable? I was once on my way back to base with 2 torps left and decided to torp the tug next to the light ship. My torp hit but nothing happened and I wasn't sure if my torp was a dud or if these ships are unsinkable. Has anyone tried to sink them?

You may find the answer that you are looking for in this previous thread about similar issues:

The mistake is easy to make. The Luxembourg flag has a slightly paler blue. The Dutch blue is brighter.

Edit: the aspect ratio difference seems to be another detail, but who knows if that is modeled in GWX too. Never thought of it.
