Beginner renown question
 

A quick question. After completing the academy I received 1500 renown. I then go to my first patrol in my career and after trying it a couple times to improve myself I end up completing my objectives (get to AN52, patrol for 24hrs). I also sunk 2 merchant ships along the way. When I return to base to complete the mission I lost 247 renown!
I thought that if I sank some tonnage it would improve my experience and my renown would increase and not decrease.
I guess I'm not clear on how it works.

Hmmm. Did you check the nationality of the ship you sank? You have to be careful early in the war as Germany isn't in a state of hostilities with most nations yet. When you come home to port with negative renown it usually means Doenitz is cross with you because you sank a neutral ship.

For sure you sunk a neutral merchant or allied ship...
In the sh3 map show a icon in the place wich you sunk that ships...red means a enemy ship, green neutral ship, blue allied ship... :salute:

Oh oh. I bet that is what happened. I'm using GWX 3 Gold and my chart does not show color icons. How do I get them back?

edit: checking flags in the manual one of the merchants I sank was Norwegian, whoops.

GWX does have a menu with the F1 key that show what nations are at war with Germany from the start and when others declare.

Ok, thanks. Now where to I specifically put this file? I tried putting in my MODS folder but it doesn't show up in JSGME.

Ok, figured it out. I was unaware that the 7z file was compressed like a zip file. I managed to get it unzipped ok and have it installed in my MOD file appropriately.

I assume your playing with GWX3 on. If so forget your objectives such as AN52 you get no renown for going there. Just go hunt merchant's

Yep, no longer any 'need' to go to your assigned patrol grid. However, usually the grid your assigned is thought to have a decent amount of traffic, so even a quick sweep is always a good idea.

Good idea. I mostly follow orders but have come back with all torpedos. Boring patrol but jimbuna's, and other, gramaphone files help to pass the time.

If you have started at the beginning, GWX3.0 puts you in charge of your boat at 1st August.....all countries are neutral, that is why you are given positive renown to start with.
