Adorable. :)

Yeah...In the aftermath of these fires I'm predicting a slew of 3-D animated Koala movies in the near future now that penguins are passe.

I heard a rumour that some people copped snaps of a couple of drop bears at a backyard pool out bush somwhere.

That'd be a sight to see..:yep:

Are those critters ok to cook up, what they taste like?

Cook one up and you'd have all sorts of govt and NGAs on your back.

They're a protected species. Unlike Roos, which thrive in grasslands when trees are felled, these little guys need as much old-growth and solid bush as possible. Obviously, given as we share the same habitable areas and humans need to remove trees, that poses a few problems for the old koalas.

I am going to have to find a video I saw of two Koala's fighting. Funniest thing I have seen in awhile.

I'd imagine they taste like eucalyptus which is pretty nasty...

For creatures that sleep 22 hours a day, when they fight, they FIGHT!:o

Yeah you've gotta watch out for those drop bears. I swear I nearly had one land on me one night while I was camping in the bush.

He'd decided to wander across a main road during the evening peak hour on a Friday Night!! , A woman and some others stopped their cars to stop the traffic for him to get across ,then he wandered into my yard.
According to the parks and wildlife's koala unit , when I rang them , they'd had lots of reports of them wandering across roads in my area - Apparently it was mating season so they were wandering alot more than usual :D
Ive got a creek just behind my place and an unbroken line of conservation area's heading into the Adelaide hills , so we see them fairly regularly walking the eldest to school.

They're adorable!!!!! And actually useful in the enviroment, unlike those stupid Pandas.

On a side note, have you aussies eaten Kangaroos before? What do they even taste like?

darius359au 02-17-09 09:57 PM

Ive always thought of roo meat as a kinda beefy/gamey type taste - You've got to eat it rare because its a very lean meat so its very easy to over cook and dry it out.Roo meats pretty common too , most Butcher shops and Supermaket's have it now - My Butcher doe's it with a nice Chilli ,herb and garlic marinade.
