Please forgive me if im wrong but on real charts of the sea would they not have had depths etc marked on them if they do can this not be replecated on the game charts.:DL

OK, you are forgiven. :D

Real charts had soundings marked on them. They were not in the exquisite and systematic detail as your sub-ocean maps, but then again they were generally for the benefit of ship captains who did not really care how deep it was as long as it was deep enough for their ship to sail on through.

The kind of systematic sonar depth mapping that allowed underwater depth maps like the kind you see in the Silent Hunter series was only done long after World War II was over.

And even then, many modern charts use soundings from the 19th century, or soundings from ship's echosounders.

In the later case, you can often clearly see the route the ships took :D
