Headline News Dec 1941: Single Sub turns back Jap invasion forces!
 

In a show of American power in the region an Salmon class sub struck at the Japanese Invasion force off of the western coast of the Phillipines today near Vegan. In a stunning 48 hour battle the submarine sank a modern cruise ship weighing nearly 10,000 tons full of Jap soldiers and a medium cruiser.A modern tanker soon followed as
ship after ship fell prey to American torpedo's. Soon a pair of modern composite freighters were left burning as the invasion force turned around and headed north at full steam away from our stunning victory north of Manila! But the Americans gave the Jap fleet one more solid kicking on its way out sinking another 7,000 ton freighter! Yes today Uncle Sam sent a message to the Emporer of Japan, Stay out of the Phillipines or pay the price!

In an additional statement General Douglas MacArthur says; "Hell, I won't have to return. Thanks to Capt. Freiwillige, I'll just hang in Manila and smoke this ridiculous pipe. "

That pipe is awesome. Maybe thats what started the "Overcompensating for something" craze we see around these days.

Impressive stuff.

I encountered two Japanese invasion fleets in my first Philippines mission. The first was east of Luzon. My sonar man picked up what must have been two dozen warships, and I went to periscope depth hoping to see a great armada of battleships, cruisers, and maybe even a carrier for me to destroy. But as I looked around, my heart sank, then fell into the icy grips of fear. THEY WERE ALL DESTROYERS!

So here I am in my dinky little S-class boat surrounded by two dozen destroyers, and a couple of them have clearly spotted my periscope. I WANT MY MOMMY!!!!

How I escaped with my sub intact I'll never know. I had a bit more luck against the second fleet off the north coast of Luzon.

The Asiatic Fleet/TF3 campaign does a great job of showing how bad things were in the East Indies early on in the war.

For the boys falling back down the central peninsula, forget the warships, take out as many cargo and passanger ships as you can. Boots on the ground people ... Wainwright and his boys on horse back will mop up what little make it to shore from the sinking ships, as they wont have any supplies once the reach the beach.

When I first played sh4 I tried starting from luzon in an sboat and each time would get sent north, and as I rounded luzon I'd hit the same TF that would always kill me. I finaly decided to start from pearl lol.

Easier said than done when they're escorted by two dozen destroyers! ;)
