Its a very busy air corridor.

Just heard about this, its very sad. I spend alot of time on these types of flights.

A couple of times the pilots have either left the cabin door open or there just behind a curtain..

Im not implying anything but it is something to think about.

It is really a shame. We have all been kind of "spoiled" by the Hudson River miracle. Up until the now that was about all I heard on the news was something else about Sully. This crash almost feels like a sucker punch. The news has been playing some recordings over and over and it appears so far that there didn't seem to be any problem. The pilot didn't seem alarmed or indicated anything was wrong.

Hrm... turns out this type of aircraft Bombardier Q400 has a somewhat dubious past.

In fact a swedish airline SAS grounded their fleet.. permanatly.

I have heard that a lot of "high wing" turbo prop designs like the ATR and the Q400 favor warm flying weather and dont do well in ice.

I have a couple of thousand hours on the SAAB 340 though... that thing is a flying Popsicle... i have proven that a number of times :o

the only safe ice on an airplane is the ice in the flight attendant's galley cart.

In other news, I just heard a radio news report about "the jet" that crashed in Buffalo....

This was due in large part to a series of landing gear failures/incidents. The only other fatal flight accident with this aircraft that I'm aware of was over 15 years ago. While your not far from the truth in suggesting a "dubious past", as the landing gear issues did produce major head aches for Bombardier, and groundings for carriers, so far the flight record has been pretty good.....

Again, we'll have to wait and see. :06:

Btw, is this the same Bombardier-company that used to make snowmobiles and snow coaches? I kinda like the old style snow coaches, they used those to deliver mail up in the very north of Finland back in the -70's when the roads were all clogged up with snow. Example.

Yeah, same guys. AFAIK, they still make snowmobiles and Sea-Doo, but I'm not a hundred percent sure.

They make train wagons and stuff like that, as well.
