Torpedoes going through ships?

Alright so I've got 1.5, I'm running TMO and RSDC, and I have what I THINK is a bug... torpedoes going THROUGH ships? Like, clipping through them? Is this common?

Torplexed 02-08-09 04:31 PM

Huh! Actually passing through the hull without exploding? Never seen that. Trans-dimensional weapons perhaps? :-?

Yeah... they're still visible on the surface, so it's not like they went underneath the hull or anything

Well there was a rumour that some of the Japanese merchant ships were equipped with underwater doors that could be opened during torpedo attacks.....

No I can't back that up.

I have not experienced that bug in any of my games.

What type of torpedo is it? What was the target? What was the date? Does it happen all the time, or just the one time?

DarkFish 02-08-09 05:03 PM

I have seen it once but I was modding the torpedo files at the time, so unless you were doing something similar it is a bit uncommon yeah.
Or it could just be sub-waterline doors or trans-dimensional weapons;)
I mean, the Japs have got lots of secret superweapons, didn't someone spot a UFO lately?

unless you were following the torp underwater i would say it went under the ship not through it. small merchants and sub chasers or destroyers are very shallow drafts and you can miss every time unless you make sure to set torps to their minimum depth.

the game tries to mimic real life because american torps were well nown to run much deeper then they were set.

It might be as simple as a model with a bad collision sphere. All it takes is a 21" hole, and a really lucky shot :)

ah, i see, this is probably it :) i'm not patient enough for manual targetting, so I tend to just select a tube and fire away

SteamWake 02-09-09 01:49 PM

Never seen one pass through a ship.

Seen several (way too many) just doink off the side, and even more slip beneath their keel.

tater 02-09-09 01:52 PM

What was the target ship?
