visable underwater controller
 
im looking to make some visual things like certain deck equipt. not be visable while the sub is underwater yet be there when it surfaces.

where is the control key that says when things appear or dont?

The only one I know of is the "visible underwater" controller in the .sim file. The problem with that, it is still visible if the camera is out of the water. It only becomes invisible if both the object and the camera view are underwater.

The only one I know of is the "visible underwater" controller in the .sim file. The problem with that, it is still visible if the camera is out of the water. It only becomes invisible if both the object and the camera view are underwater.

so if the ship sank in shallow water and the flag is underwater but the camera is above the ship i will still see the flag flying underwater?


i was also thinking, what if i wanted to tie objects to say the crew on deck so could i create a trigger calling for an object only when the crew is on deck? could something like that be done to simulate the crew storing equipt when diving like the biskaya kreuz or the uzo?

To the op, How close you move the camera brings things into veiw, right?

What i mean is no one can see them but you and only if you use the extern-cam,

or am i missing something here? :hmmm:

its purely a cosmetic thing, going to external view underwater you should not see things like the biskaya kreuz or the uzo anymore than you should see the watch crew on deck and if it could be edited to not appear underwater it would be more realistic looking.

as for the tying it too the crew on deck there are lots of modding possabilities for things to be triggered to appear or dissappear like signal lights, flags, wakes, different types of debris or have some salors appear in the water rather than all in lifeboats.

i think the key here is to make the equipt. act as a crew member you dont see the crew underwater and they automatic pop up when you surface so i need someone to help me do that.

For first case you must to use WaterInteraction controller and Delete owner object at interaction ...

which dat file am i looking for?

i tried looking in the library folder and i see nothing there i recognize as what im looking for so i checked particles.dat and didnt find anything.

i also checked the dat files in the submarine folders but see no "VisibleUnderWater" nodes.

i dont know anything about controllers so i dont know where to look or how to look.

One question, if he uses the WaterInteraction controller and deletes the object, it won't reappear when he surfaces, will it? I have never tried it, so I thought you might know the answer.

Yes, it was deleted ...
and i speak about first case described by Webster (about ship's Flag on shallow depth) ...

It's possible to try to apply repeatedly WaterInteraction controller (for creating flag) ... But if the object (for example emerging submarine) moves, ... a flag position will be with displacement ... it's only if flag is in dat-file of object ...

yes, i am sorry

i was taking about making flags disappear on sinking ships but at the same time im trying to also make uzo disappear when you submerge and reappear when you surface.

i thought it would be the same solution i use to do both of these things.

also i am thinking if flag is deleted, how can i be sure it will delete only that ships flag and not all flags of that type ship? as example two of the same ships in convoy and i sink one, will flag on both ships disappear?
