What is he saying?
Mornin' all,
like many of you, I have the spoken language set to German in GWX, and am (slowly) getting to understand the pronunciation. There is one young crew member though who sounds so scared, I want to give him a hug and reassure him that it IS only a game... you will know the chap I mean, because when the hunters above start doing a DC run, he says 'wasser bombe', in such a tone of dread, and then says something else I can't decipher, but which sounds like an underbreath prayer. Can anyone translate what he is saying please? |
I think he is saying something like "when will it finally be over".
But my German is much like yours, so donīt take my word for it:hmmm: |

reminds me of Johann
*searches for a luger, just in case...* |
astak agrees with you von swe, so I will go with that. :)

Ah yes I know who you mean :) . He says more or less "Ach mann, ist das endlich vorbei" which means "Oh man will this finally end"
I also find it annoying, I suppose in the real U-Boats no one would dare being such a poo-poo continuously, else the Kaleun would be shooting him. :stare: |
I think he says "Ach wann ist das endlich vorbei?"
"Sigh, when will it finally be over?" :know: |
Thank you all, very helpful.
Hitman, be kind; knowing that death could be moments away, and having to go through that again and again, for a young man with all his dreams before him... |
If it's the one I'm thinking of, he says it right after "Enemy is pinging us, sir!".
I duct-taped his mouth by blanking the file. Of course I use the full Das Boot Sound Mod myself...but them I'm biased. |
SS, I didn't know about that mod - am downloading it now :)

In case it's hiding, you can get it here:

Well, basically it does add sounds from the movie Das Boot.:rotfl:
Back in the SH2 days a very talented group got together to rewrite the mediocre sounds for that game. They changed a lot of things, mostly the voice files, because the actual actors and sound effects were so much more immersive than the voice actors hired for the game. When SH3 came out I converted as many files as would fit to .ogg format to work with this game. Some of them have been used by others (the Crash Dive sequence in GWX is the one I hashed together from three different original DBSM files to fit the SH3 format. You'll get the crew cheering (or nothing at all, depending on which file you choose) when a torpedo hits, and the captain swearing when it's a dud. There are other, bigger sound mods out there; this ones just my favorite. One thing you can do is download something like www.goldwave.com and listen to the stock voice files and the DBSM ones side by side. Then you'll see exactly what it does. |
