Circle runnin' torps!
 

I just had my first wild torp (mk14). I just about pissed my pants when I was watching the little movie screen and my torp passed above and behind my conning tower!:o I hit flank and crash dived.

It was creepy, because I just read the book about the Tang and I was wondering if it would ever happen to me.:-?

I'm glad I wasn't on the surface when it happened.

I had a mk 18 do the same thing, even with the option of dud torpedoes turned OFF.

I stayed at periscope depth, stationary, and it didn't hit me.

Very strange.

Only happened to me once. That's when I blessed my screenshot taking mania. I had external camera on to watch the resulting explosion when I saw one of my torps overturning the designated angle. An immediate crash dive saved my ass.:damn:

In real life, I would have given hell to the higher ends for ther inaction about faulty torpedos after the partol, regadless of the consequences.

I had it happen with one of the good old Mk10s! I was attacking one of the landing forces in the Philippines Sea. At periscope depth one of them circled to port and passed right behind the conning tower, I crash dived. When I followed the torpedo even more I realized if I hadn't it would have run smack into the tower.

I had a torpedo circle around. I was looking at the attack map and I noticed the torpedo coming right at me, so I hit back emergency. The torpedo just missed my bow.
I heard that this can happen. I didn't think it happened to me. I was lucky on that patrol. I just wished the torpedo would hit something, it didn't.
