how to
It's 1940 goin into 1941, I've always been using steam torps most if not all the time, but i did a half and half load last patrol, and with the slow settings on the electric, I couldn't hit the biggest ship in the world. ...Any electric torp users here that could help me out...and yes i do open torp doors before firing...is there a certain angle i need to shoot from, or certain distance...?

your firing solution becomes more and more erroneous with distance the torpedo has to travel to meet the target.
my recommendation on electrics would be to fire at no greater than 1500m range. the only time i use electric torpedoes is during daylight at point blank range. when they become available i will load tubes 1 and 4 with electric torpedoes and tubes 2 and 3 with steam so that my spread of 1-4 and 2-3 will be firing the same type of fish. just dont take long range shots and you'll do fine |
GR pretty well covered it. :yep:

You haven't described your targetting procedure. Some people just take shots without using the TDC. This can be done at short ranges with G7a torps but the electrics are too slow for this, unless you are really good. Use the TDC to determine what angle off your bow the target should be to determine the correct moment to fire for your optimum shot. There are a number of threads that describe manual targetting procedures. Check the links in the Newbie guide: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=96026 |
There is a known bug in Sh3 that forgets to tell the TDC to update the lead angle for the current selected torpedo when you have previously selected a torpedo with different speed setting. So if you selected a Type1 at fast, then select a type2 (that can only go slow) the TDC still thinks the type 2 should be aimed as if it was fast. Therefore, allways select the propper speed setting before you fire (for any kind of torpedo) to be sure, if you ever select different torpedo speeds. Maybe that is what happend.

Thanks GR...that's probably my error, to far away...as for my targeting solution...it's auto configuration...I always try to do manuel, but have never mastered or been able to sink a ship using manuel. Usually I try to keep it realistic though, firing at no where past 70 or 110 degrees. or 20 degrees past 90. usually though Im at 90. are the steam torps the only torps that can be used for Medium and fast speeds?

Yeah they're the only ones that can change speed. Remember that your early war TIIs will malfunction like nobody's business
|
A good rule of thumb is to set all TIIs to run at 1 meter. Any lower and they might just bounce off the curved area of the hull.
