SHIII widescreen blues

Recently my old IIyama monitor died on me. Had to buy a new screen and got one with a native 1440 x 900 resolution. It shouldn't be a problem playing my beloved SHIII because there is a hi-res fix, right? Wrong. I can still only play at 1024x768 res and the game is still playable, but it looks horrible.

I have tried to install the fix many times, but every time I try to fire up SHIII the game crashes. I have a freshly installed version of GWX 3 with a couple of minor mods installed per SH III Commander, nothing spectacular. I did however install GWX in a copied original folder; i.e. I copied the original folder from one drive to another so that it can be adapted.

My computer runs on XP, SP3 with a 9600 XT with the latest catalyst driver installed. All my other games run perfect.

This is what happens:

My Sh III folder:

the mod: it goes into the SH III folder, the rez fix batch file is clicked.

This is the result:

Any ideas? I have searched in other treads, but I could't find anything similar.

Help would be much appreciated.....

Thanks :salute:

Hi there! I too have had the same error and have for the time being given up with it, but i do hope that there might be a fix for SH3 to run in wide screen soon:D

I would also be interested in seeing if this problem could be fixed.

Kind regards,

Did you change to 1440*900 in d3d9.cfg file? Then run the bat file again. If still not working I'm not sure if it's ATI related.. Could be monitor, too. I could get hi-res with GF6800GT card (ya, old now) but with my LCD monitor, there was no way I could have the screen not stretched (thus having black side bars on side).

I forgot to mention it but: yes I did...

I don't really think this is the problem but just in case if you happened to installed MS application compatible kit for SH3, try to delete the entry (or the app itself if you're not using it for anything else). Well, not much help, sorry..

No solution Jimmie, cause I don't have it installed, but thanks for wanting to help out! I suspect it has something to do with SP3 or something in the registry.....

I just set my cfg to 1440x900 with ATI HD4850, XP SP3 & works fine.:-?:yep:

Am I missing something here? I'm playing SH3+GWX3.0 on my widescreen TV at 1280x768 (not quite 16:9) and as far as I can see the picture is fine without any additonal tweaking. The crew look skinny. The dials in the command room look round.

What does this widescreen mod do?

*edit* Opps, thought I was posting in the "widescreen mod" thread. Sorry!

I have the same thing. no matter what I tried, having the d3d9.dll file in the game folder will lead to a crash.
