What the 2 of them are doing is the old martial art technique of a martial yell (Kiyai). Its good for 2 reasons, one it can break the focus of an enemy, and most importantly it helps focus power, speed and precision in a strike. Virtually all martial arts use some form of kiyai. Those 2 are just applying the concept to tennis.

Men's tennis isn't into this shreiking is it? I haven't followed tennis since 94.:yawn: It seems like all of the womens players shreik now:shifty: .

It is also used to mask the stroke of the player....apparently slices and spins etc are decipherable to a tennis pro very early in their execution by the sound the racket makes when hitting the ball.
