Gran Torino

Just seen it. The funniest movie I've seen this year.

Digital_Trucker 01-30-09 09:09 AM

Glad to hear that. I think I'll see it this weekend. Was wondering how good it was:hmmm:

Looked to me like Clint had a ton of fun making it. Watch for the scene in the barber shop.:haha::haha::har:

this surprises me.

My dad said the exact same thing! but it didnt seem to be marketed as a comedy :hmmm:

Do not want to spoil it. But it was a good movie. Clint at his best at 78. A class act! Did you notice that there was some of the old characters in Walt? Chewing ans spitting like Josey Wales. Getting in the face of the punks and liking it like Harry Callahan. The ending sure defined the true heart of the old racist and made my GF cry, who happens to be asian as well. I now call her "yum yum".

Its not what I'd call a comedy in the same way Dirty Harry and Fistfull of Dollars were not comedies, but there are such comedic gems in this movie that had the whole theatre rolling in the aisles.

I agree you can see quite a bit of Clint,... I mean Mr. Eastwood's old roles in this character. I love the baccy spitting scene with the H'Mong grandmother spitting out a stream 4 times as thick and twice as dark as Walt's.:haha:

GoldenRivet 01-30-09 04:37 PM

that sounds funny.

how about

Gran Torino is funny in the same sense that "Kelly's Heroes" is funny?:hmmm:

It didn't seem to be marketed as a comedy, but would still like to go and see it.

"Go ahead, Make my prune juice!":arrgh!:

Just checked the trailer and I must say it looked very good. Gotta give kudos to Clint! Even in his age, he still can act like in the days of Dirty Harry. Absolutely gonna check this one out! :yeah:

I saw it last week:yeah: . The Hmong gangs are a big problem in the Midwest, but they are nice people though. I worked with a Hmong guy once, and his grandma made some spring rolls, man were they good.:D

Although, if you have sensitive ears, the movie might hurt them.:o

I went to see this movie last night. It was very good and typical Clint. It was not hysteryically funny as a comedy. Just subtle lines in the move that made viewers laugh. All in all, it was quite good and as far a politically correct movie, you will not find it in this one! Clint's colorful descriptions of peoples race do draw a clear picture as to his understanding of the world (as he sees it). I will say no more and ruin it for those who have not seen it. It is worth going to see. :salute:

Agree it's not a comedy, just funny in lots of places with very subtle dry humor. (My favourite kind). Go see it and judge for yourself. I give it :yeah:

dont mess with the hmongs, they already have a lot of suffering, theres still a secret war going on between the patnet lao and the hmongs. but its an okay movie.

Damn, TJ. I almost went into jealousy mode.

Just reading the title, I thought you must have gone out and bought one.
