New PC built, need advise.
I finally got a new PC built, and I want to get back into SH4 but I need advise. I don't have the U-boat upgrade so what patches are best. Also will I be able to use the mods even though I don't have the upgrade? It's been a while since I've been here. Thanks much:up:

FOTRS.Is built on SH4 1.4
Try it.:yep:

And as soon as you can, or when you get tired of FOTRS, get the 1.5 U-boat upgrade. Adds many features. As far as vanilla 1.4 goes, there are three major mods--TMO, RFB and RSRDC. TMO and RFB improve the game in inumerable ways but differently. RSRDC deals with Jap shipping and makes it more accurate. It works with either TMO or RFB. Caution--make sure you get the right versions and the right patches for whatever you choose.

I too, refrained from getting it right away [1.5 U-boat upgrade]. Big mistake, got it months later, love it! Best money ever spent by ME. It is that DARN good. |
Where do I get this upgrade? Is it in the stores?

Try EBgames
although it's damn hard to find a copy, especially when EBGames has relegated PC games to one standalone rack at the back of the store (the console 'virus' sickens me:nope: ). I think the Gold Edition is more prevalent as opposed to a 'standalone' 1.5 Add-on. I just bought the Gold Edition for $30CAD and it automatically upgraded my 1.4 to 1.5 I then added TMO for 1.5 and RSRD for 1.5 so I'm back to the mod situation I had with 1.4
I use SH4 Speech as well so the immersion factor is that much better IMHO. I'm still not sure that there's a HUGE difference between 1.4 and 1.5 (I don't play the U-boat side so may be missing something). The graphics are better, the loadtimes are faster and the GUI has been tweaked. I'm only a couple of missions into a campaign so perhaps haven't been exposed to all 1.5 has to offer (i.e. special abilities etc). |
I'll have to check around for it. Thanks for advise guys.
