that ships mod...........

does anyone remember that mod where the ships manueverability was decreased to realistic values?

and that harbour mod of st nazaire that looks cool.

thanks in advance.

Do you mean Thompsons ship mod?

magicsub2 01-23-09 10:48 PM

i think so...........

magicsub2 01-23-09 10:53 PM

also, how do you get the star shells and armour piercing shells back?

cos they where historic.

A Very Super Market 01-24-09 01:14 AM

Umm, no they weren't. Even in the manual, it says that U-boots historically carried 220 HE rounds only. No sense in bringing star shells in a a submarine, or AP rounds. When would you ever use them?

magicsub2 01-24-09 03:34 AM

i read that a 8.8cm deck gun can alternatively fire armour piercing rounds or star shells.

You are correct....they could, but in RL it is doubtful whether they ever did and as yet nobody has posted a link to a definitive source.

A link to your source would be helpful.

magicsub2 01-24-09 10:26 PM

Where does it say that star shells and AP rounds were issued? The fact is, just because you can use a certain type of ammunition, doesn't mean you should. Say you're hunting birds, you wouldn't use Deer Slug would you?

magicsub2 01-25-09 04:11 AM

well then why did they make the gun compatiable to them??

Mittelwaechter 01-25-09 07:14 AM

The U-Boot deckguns (8.8 and 10.5 cm) were modified guns, developed pre-WWI for surface units to defend against torpedo-boats.

They were capable to use the HE as the AP and SS shells. Well, for a U-Boot there was no use for AP and SS ammunition, but the gun could have shot them.

Some misunderstanding may be caused in translation of "can/could". :D
