An overdue tribute to Canadian sailors. The merchant sailors were brave men, often treated shabbily, whose sacrifices have not been properly recognised (at least in the UK). And Canadian sailors scarcely get a mention over here.

For an informative and readable account of the Atlantic war placing Canadian efforts in their proper context, see "Battle of the Atlantic" by Marc Milner. And, while I am on my soap-box, why is it that the struggle against the U-boats in WW1 is virtually forgotten? Information gained from Uboat.net implies that over 7000 allied merchant ships were lost 1914-18 (more than WW2), including 503 in June 1917 alone!

Good song, well sung. Thanks for the tip-off!

Jim,
can you tell me on which one of your gramophone packs is this song on? I've had it but lost it in my last computer crash. it will save me time to sift through of all of them. Or better would you mind emailing just this particular song.
Thanks a bunch!
