Gibralta
Ahoy,
I've just completed a sneaky patrol into Gib Harbour Jan 1940. I crept into the harbour at night avoiding the ASW trawlers at 2 knots, silent running. Looked through my periscope and spotted the Nelson sat to the far west of the harbour, after planning my attack and getaway route (torpedo nets etc) i fired 2 eels of at the Nelson, hitting her forward hull, couldnt get a side shot due to the way she was moored up and i didnt want to get too close into the harbour. I fired my remaining 3 eels at 3 Large merchants, all eels hit, I sank the 3 Merchants but didnt sink the Nelson with 2 eels  , I was a little gutted at this but she's a big girl and i realise how thick her hull must be. I managed to time all my eels to impact at roughly the same time which obviously upset the locals, i decided to leave swiftly once again dodging the ASW trawlers and the torpedo boats. I made it out of the harbour without a scratch, mainly due to the fact that there were no Destroyers present at that time and a very experience crew (we sank 36000 tonnes in the Gib straights prior to the raid). Has anyone else raided Gib in GWX 3 or does anyone else no if any of the Carriers are present in any ports such as Plymouth or Portsmouth. I dont usually raid harbours but after playing SH3 for 4 years I fancied a change from the sea sickness of the North Atlantic in February. Any intel greatly appreciated  |
Raid
:D Hi there sonicninja :D
I haven't raided the Gibraltar harbour in GWX3.0 :-? ..YET!!! But I sunk the HMS Nelson in GWX2.1 . Is she at the same spot:hmm: In the Northwestern corner :hmm: Don't you ever firing only 2 torps at Nelson in Gib.Harbour :nope: at least 3-4 torps should do:yep: But I sunk Nelson 3 times in GWX3 and the mighty "Hood also" , and the "HMS Implasable" (Aircraft carrier , 23000 tons ) I am looking forward to sneak in the Gib.Harbour some other time :p NOW ,,, BE MORE AGRESSIVE :ahoy: :arrgh!: |
Gibraltar
Hello,
Under GWX3 and after 22 hours (time 1X) I have "sneaked" through the Strait of Gibraltar. GWX3 is great... and I must say thank you to the modders. |
The only definite way to find out what is where and when would be by opening the Campaign_Scr layer http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

returned to Gibralta again to sink the Nelson, used 4 eels this time and only her bow went under water, i still didnt get to sink her, although her bow was sitting on the sea bed.
However i sank a southampton class and 4 large merchants before i left for home. |
Remember this
:D hi Sonicninja :D
Remember this, it's a very shallow water in the bay 4 mtrs only:o |
Sounds like there was some juicy targets there - but I don't think I'm going to risk my DiD career at the port of Gibraltar:) The other thing about port hunting that bothers me is the issue (mentioned earlier) that sometimes ships don't sink in harbour - like they submerge partially and then rest on the bottom without registering a 'kill'. Also, I imagine a harbour sinking gives tommy a good chance to pull her up again and restore her. Best is to put a BB down in >1000m of water!

"Much of her port side had been ripped open by as many as eight Japanese torpedoes, and her rudder had been blown off by another... USS West Virginia rejoined the active fleet in July 1944 and took an active part in the Pacific War's final year." |

Prien entered in Scapa Flow thanks to a spy who notice the gap between two ships and that entrance it isn't guard by RN, altought no regular subs enter into harbour (italian and english use small subs to enter in Gibraltar, Alexandria and Norway fjord). But it is a game and anything it is possible. |
