mines east of helgoland?
Hey all - I think I just hit a mine at high TC, but I never heard of a minefield there so I thought I ought to ask. I was leaving Wilhelmshaven, and I was just east of Helgoland (like just out of visual range of the island). Anyone know of a minefield there in May 1940 (GWX 3.0)? I know they are around the immediate ports, but I never hit one that far out.

Maybe someone on GWX can confirm. |
Yup. ENE and S of Helgoland are minefields.
Funnily enough I got bored last night and decided to take a tour of that area for a good several hours and not once did I stumble across a mine. :hmm: |
A bloody mines! I hit one in the same area too once.
You should get a radio message warning about mines layed around this island. |

Ok - I'm going to give her wide clearance. It's funny because often I drive through places where I know there are probably mines, but am usually ok because when you're surfaced, you rarely hit them. For instance, _occasionally_ I"ll do a channel run, and I know there are mines there, but I make sure I run surfaced, and unless the seas are really choppy, it's unlikely to dip down and catch a mine. RUnning at PD on the other hand, is extremely dangerous. The problem with the area east of Helgoland is that it is so shallow (11m) that the mines are right near the surface. Anyway, I managed to stave off the flooding and since it was my second patrol, the men I lost were noobs and were highly replaceable. All in all, not a bad place to hit a mine.
