SHIII - Steam Version - Starforce?
 

Hello all,

I'm on Vista 64 and have pretty much given up on Silent Hunter III with regards to getting it runing (I tried everything in every search result on this forum and nothing works for me).

I heard the DL versions of SHIII do not have Starforce, is this true of the Steam DL version as well?

Purchasing a late copy of SHIII is generally without Starforce, in Australia it is released in the "That's Hot!" collection of games and can be purchased less than $20 new.:yep:
However I doubt that this is the problem you are having, I still run XP pro and will do till the release of Windows 7, the retail price of windows is far too high to keep upgrading, and Vista is a lemon IMO, so sorry that I can't help further.:oops:

I went over to the Steam fgorum and it looks like the Steam version of SHIII is 1.3 with no plans for 1.4 being added in. A few people were complaining about issues with 1.4 and Vista so I steared clear. I was going to try the No-cd crack but figured I would just buy another one that's already updated.

In the end, I bought the DL version from Direct2Drive (version 1.4) though for $9.95. Not too shabby. :)

Now I just need to get it to run at 2560x1600 16:10. :)

Ooh, I wish I had saw this thread earlier.

I bought it on Steam, no problems. I modded it to oblivion and its still holding up. Every so often, I get messages telling me that the 3d engine doesn't work, but I think its a different program causing that. So yeah, its safe on Vista.

There is a sale on the Steam store now, you can get SH4 + U-boat missions if you want to, cheap

Edit: You can install 1.4 without problems as well.
