can I dock at a friendly port for repairs?
 

I almost got sunk off the east coast of England, three crew killed and serious hull damage. I made it to Wilhelmshaven, but do not know how to dock or if I can. Can I dock at a friendly port and make repairs? Can I end the patrol at a friendly port?What are my options? Thanks! Joe S

hit escape key, select dock at Wilhemshaven

the mission will end.

When you go out for the next mission you will start at Wilhelmshaven with damage repaired.

If im correct, you can dock at any port that is on your side (labeled in blue.)

when I first got there I did not get the option to dock, so I just saved the game. When I loaded the saved mission, I then had the option to dock, so I did. Now they have sent me on a mission to patrol grid "Null" and report to St. Nazaire, which I intrerpret to mean just go to my home port. I assume no one will object if I sink a few ships along the way. Joe S

Yes, You have been transferred, all you have to do is sail to the new base. (and sink some ships.) I don't advise taking the channel route.:lol:

You have been assigned a 'Null' patrol grid because you are not in your home port and the game interprets this the same as if you docked with a supply ship or a milch cow.

There are tools that can alter save files and give you a patrol grid instead of "null". I think (not sure) SH3 commander has such a function. You may check the mod forum for that

You can only do it IN PORT or else your save file will crash

For realism sake, I try to get to a major naval base (if not my home base) after a badly damaged patrol.

A regular port, said, Tobruk, just don't have the dry dock facility to repair major damages.
