Bigger shell splashes??

I read somewhere that when the stringbags (swordfish torpedo bombers) attacked the bismarck, the bismark fired its guns into the water, creating massive splashes in an attempt to make the water hit the planes to stuff up their engine, bring them down, p*ss them off or something. could this be implemented in the game?

it does not have to be used like it was thier, but it would be cool to be surprised by a battleship makking massive explosions.

it sounds pretty easy to do, just replace the splash thoses guns make with the torpedo expopsion splash.

54 people have seen this thread but no one has posted!!!!!!!!

This is another incidence of needless eye candy, other than for screenshots, this would serve no purpose in the game.

I think I described something like this in a different thread, but whatever :P

The point of the game is to simulate subs, not planes, not battleships. The devs don't need to program much in the way of surface tactics, because it can be assumed that the player won't see it!

Never modded before, so I don't know how easy it would be to make it happen.

But there are a lot of mods out there so maybe a mod out there that could make this happen.

You Say That In Every On Of My Threads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:P Sorry if I sound like an *******

To answer your question, probably not. The torpedo impact splashes are not "solid" so you couldn't randomly replace it. You would also need to change the ship's AI to have it determine when to use the water splashes, which would take a humongous amount of effort.

I think most of the physics in game are hardcoded, so yeah...no

Madox58 12-17-08 11:01 PM

You might be able to give the splash a collisionable object controller.
But given the shell speed and angles of fire?
You'd probably never see it hit the water ahead of an inbound aircraft.
They always climb to a set height then do a Dive bomb attack.
Torpedo attacks by AirCraft don't happen in SH3 as they did in
Real Life.
In Real Life?
Those Boys rode the waves so close they could nearly row the plane!

Really? No one but you uses torps? Never knew that....:-?

Pss are you the one who get banned on the forum and accused your cousin nazi cursing on the forum something like that?
Magicset? magic? hmmm:hmm:

Anvart, Ref, me, and MANY others have worked the AI torp
issues to death.
Notice none of those has a release?
:damn:
Close in many cases but not to our standards.
I thought Anvart came as close as could be to dropped torps.
:hmm:
But he has a way with things and may yet surprise us.
Ref is a TechnoMage beyond compare.
I kind of stumble into things.
;)

A Very Super Market 12-17-08 11:29 PM

oO

IS the AI just unsuited for torps or something?

Madox58 12-17-08 11:53 PM

There is no provision in the Hard Code for AI Torpedoes.
Not by air drop nor surface fire nor submurged fire.

Anvart worked the air dropped with limited effect.

Ref worked for surfaced fired with limited effect.

I worked on submerged units fireing.

Anvart and Ref did better then me.

A Very Super Market 12-17-08 11:59 PM

Hmm... and what would "limited" effect mean.

I'll take anything, even if it looks stupid

Madox58 12-18-08 12:08 AM

Limited means:

None of us felt the results were good enuff to
do a release.

We do have a sense of pride.
We don't want to dump just any old fix on users.

Anvart and Ref are two of the people I respect very highly!
They would not release junk stuff.
And I follow thier example.
