I recently re-installed SHIII and GWX, and thought "Right, I'll dust myself off with the Naval Academy first."

I got to the Flak Exam, thought "Well, if I remember, this is easy." So I told my crew to man the AA gun and start firing - swig of my tea, sit back and read.

The next thing I know, I've spat my Tetley out over the monitor as I see the smouldering wreck that used to be my conning tower, a victim of a bombing run.

On the other hand, you can get full renown from just the Navigation Exam now.:sunny:

I loaded a training mission just to test a VIIB skin and first thing I knew I was getting bombed from all sides.

Well, if your testing things?
The Training Missions are NOT the place to do that.

I use a Blank Campaign Layer for testing stuff.
No surprises that way.

And if you do the training Missions and get whacked?
Don't feel alone!
I've never EVER passed them!

Life is Hell sometimes! I have also never even made it through the damn Academy (in GWX)

The only training mission I cant pass is the plane one.:huh: How do you shoot down killer planes. I meen, bombs, guns(in which are quite accuriat) who could. (a person with the Uberboat mod.:lol: )

And I wonder, did the infamous Kapt. balz complete the Training Academy or did he hide under his tea cozy?

sometimes i manege to pass the fly academy, first thing full speed ahead and shoot the planes from a distance, you have to be quick before the planes destroy each other

The GWX flak training is a true live-ammo. mission, on both sides. The best way to do it is flank speed, 90 deg rudder and get out from the "flight path circle", where you start out. Then continue to fire from the edge of the formations.

I just uninstalled everything of SH3 this past week and reinstalled to only 1.4b. I want to be ready to install up to the new GWX Gold 3.0, and have some time to appreciate the old UBIsoft version. The flak training range on 1.4b is sooo much easier! :yep:

Plan 1 Theory:
Crash dive - get out of harm's way - resurface on edge of formation circle and give em' hell.

Reality:
By the time I got deep enough, I never came back up. :nope:

Plan 2 Theory:
Immediately go to surface flank speed, begin erratic maneuvers, quick 100 meter turns slowly working outward to edge of formation.

Reality:
Blown to smithereens before flank speed reached. :down:

Plan 3 Theory:
Surface flank speed, immediate hard turn to port/starboard - thus minimizing profile for bomber (i.e., instead of down the entire length of the sub, only across the sub), get to outside of formation, and begin large elliptical plotted course then unload my flak ammo post haste.

Reality:
Total success. Shot down all planes, received perfect marks. :rock:
