Fuel leak?

I was sent to Hokkiado and used 30% fuel getting there @ 10knots cruise. I started returning home with 55 fuel left but I cant even make it to midway now, my fuel burn is much higher now?

The only damage Ive recieved is to the deck gun, though I did take some shells to the hull, hull damage 5%...

I got a fuel leak? What are my options if midway is the closest and I cant make it?

:-?

Options? Officially, none. You're dead!:yep: (at least in stock 1.4).
There was a post(s) about hacking the save file or something... search the forum a bit and you'll find it.
Why does this thing happen?
1. Your batterie does not "auto recharge" 100%. It reaches, say, 99%. That means that your fuel consumption is almost equivalent as moving at flank speed (this according to earlier discussions on the subject). What triggers the effect? Probably already sustained damage (regardless of the fact that it may be repaired). Solution: Click the button to manually stop "auto recharge"!
2. Tank leak? Sounds logical but I'm not sure it's a well documented effect.
3. Adverse weather leading to increased fuel consumption: Also discussed, mixed responses, personally I think it maybe an issue but don't quote me on this! :D

Hoped this helps you a bit...

Thanks, I guess I did have battery damage, I turned off recharge and everything is fine.

New to SH4, it feels a little awkward compared to SH3...

Cheers

Yes this is a tricky little bug that catches even 'vetrans' now and then.

Only way to avoid it is to keep an eye on battery status. If they refuse to take a 100% charge you will have to switch off charging manually.

Even if the damage control station shows them with no damage.

Just another thing to add to your situational awarness check list.

Yepp, from now on I'll keep an eye on my batteries...

Ive got another question...

What is with the green algae in the water, its pretty ugly, its like Im drving through pea soup? Is there a graphic setting I can change to lower or get rid of that stuff, or a mod?

I dont recal seeing that on any SH4 video's?

Also, any good recomendations for mods? (I use GWX for SH3), like RSRD? (one that removes that green algae would be great)

Pretty sure there is a mod to remove the blobbies, personally I think its realistic. The ocean is not pristine you know ;)

oh... and it does seem there is a fuel leak damage possible, I recieved damage tonight, catostrophic, all hands lost. we lost all fuel and dropped the batts to 12% in a matter of a few minutes.

one of the worst lines of DC's ive ever witnessed at least three detonated close abord, all compartments flooding, all systems damaged, a few deaths and alot of injuries. I dident wait for the death scene I just quit... time for another new carrier.

Leave those damn corvettes alone.

As you said it is just part of the catastrophic domino effects that send you to permanent ocean floor residence! In stock-1.4 you don't have time to do anything, (blowing ballast included). It seems that the game has already decided you're dead, at this point. In my answer I was talking about fuel "leaking" (literally), the effect you're talking about is actually a tank rapture thingy! :yep:

And BTW on the battery recharge issue... I'm not sure that the batteries themselves must have sustained some sort of damage. As soon as I sustain any kind of damage I go on "auto recharge alert"! :D
